Note to WA drivers - Multanovas getting sneakier
This week I drove thru 3 Multanova setups where the cameras were on the median strip - hard to see amongst the bushes. They were pointed in the direction of travel so you are effectively "shot in the back" with no warning from your RD!
Of course the blue "Anywhere Anytime" sign was hard to see. Sly mongrels. I thought they had to have a shot where the driver could be identified?

Interesting. Radar detectors should still pick up these cameras as there is still a radar "field" being emitted from the camera, only it's pointing away from the car rather than toward the car, which will make detection harder, definitely give us shorter distance, but hopefully still picked up. I'll let you know how I go with one when i see a multi like this. So far my Bel STiR has been fantastic
I was also under the impression they had to identify the driver?

The detection range is definitely shorter. Face on I get up to 100+ metres warning with my V1. With this set up I'm virtually side-on before the first chirp - which of course is too late,..if you're speeding.
Marmion Ave is a "Multinova-rich environment" with it's heavily wooded median strips and sides.

I am not aware of anywhere in australia that requires the identification of the driver in the photo. Be happy you are allowed radar detectors, the warning we get comes in the mail a few weeks later

What is a good radar detector option anyway? I saw there was one on AutoClassic's option list for about $3,790.
My only experience with them is when I step foot into a taxi and all I hear for the rest of the trip is "Whooop, Whooop! ... K Band." et al while driving in front of petrol stations, automatic sliding doors, hospitals, park benches, birdlife in esperance etc... |

One of the other WA posters here has a hard wired system but I can't remember who it is.... Best radar detector IMHO is the oncoming driver with the flashing headlights! God Bless West Oz!

That'd be me. My Bel STiR is hard wired but I certainly didn't pay anywhere near that price! (not even half).
I have my K-band turned off for driving around the city else I do get a lot of false alarms. Ka-band for multi's is the one i'm after and thus far, my detector is doing a great bloody job of it. For country drives, i re-active K-band as its most commonly found in patrol car mounted radar. Most handhelds are laser. My detector and the Valentine 1 which amk2912 uses are about the best money can buy.
