I don't think they really hurt the looks of the car, at least not on blue. Mine vs yours: |

I am really interested to see your thoughts on the 135 vs the 335 as I am considering making the swith to a 2011 135 with DCT at the end of the year.

Anyway, my 335 coupe was a great car and I really enjoyed driving it for years. The 335 seemed a bit bigger inside and more comfortable for me, especially on long drives (I'm 6' 4"). The 1 series seems to have about the same amount of headroom, however, I just felt like the 335's more laid back seating position was more comfortable. Also, the 335 was really hard to get into and the 135 being a bit taller, is easier for me to get in and out of. The 335 was powerful and smooth, whereas, the 135 is a bit less refined. This makes the 1 more fun to drive on windy roads, but the 335 was more enjoyable for longer trips and driving around town (I tell my wife that the 335 was like a steak knife and the 135 is more like a scalpel). I like how the 135 is more aggressive looking than the 335; after having the 335 for awhile, I thought it looked too soft. There are 3 things I really don't like on the 1 series that were better on the 3 though: 1-the side view mirrors on the 2010 1 are hideous looking; they were much nicer looking on the 3 2-the inside door handle on the 1 sticks out too far and my knee rubs on it; the 3 didn't have this sort of handle. 3-the glacier aluminum trim is ok looking, but I like the smooth, brushed aluminum in my 3 better. And lastly, it's hard to make a truly fair comparison between the two cars, especially since I added a bunch of BMW performance parts to the 1 that weren't on the 3. If I had added all of the same parts to the 3, I think I would like it even better than the 1, since it would be more aggressive looking, be more fun to drive, and still more comfortable! Oh, one last thing, the cupholders are in a much better place in the 335 and easier to use, but this is a minor thing. Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this helps. Thanks for the reply. I am primarily looking for insight on how the 135 feels vs the 335 on a daily basis. How it drives etc. Is there any noticeable difference in driving feel, road noise, exhaust note, etc. Sometimes it is hard to really get a feel for these things on a test drive. I am used to a JB3 modded 335 so I'm sure there will be changes in feel. I'll have to use map 0 for a the last couple of months so I am not disappointed with the N55 :-) Seriously though, one of the things I don't like about my 335 is that even though it is a fast car, it doesn't feel fast. A bit too smooth. I am hoping the 135 gives a bit more of an edgy feel.

1. So many people talk about how "small" the 135 is. From a functionality standpoint the 335 coupe didn't seem to have any more room inside than the 135. Obviously the trunk is considerably larger in the 3 coupe. 2. Interior materials are slightly better in the 3 coupe (softer touch plastics on the dash, etc.), I personally like the interior design of the 1 better, namely the sleeker dash and center stack that is canted toward the driver 3. Exhaust note was noticeably different, the 3 coupe seemed to be about half an octave higher. 4. The Step transmission in my car seemed to shift noticeably quicker and harder than the one in the 335 coupe. Others have talked about this so I don't think I'm going nuts. 5. The 335 has some nice touches the 1 lacks that I appreciated - The pipe lights in the doors, dynamic cruise, and seat belt butler are cool. I did miss the M-sport steering wheel in my 1. For the Nav folks the 3 coupe dash design integrates it much better than the 1 IMHO, neither my car nor the loaner had that option. 6. Overall performance seemed very close (and it is from the tests I've read). The longer wheelbase 335 feels more planted, the 135 seems to have slightly quicker reflexes. The 135 to me definitely feels a bit quicker and offers a drive that's a bit more visceral. It all really comes down to personal preference and your intended use for the car. I'm very happy with my purchase decision, as are friends that have 3 coupes. GL with the decision. Last edited by Angry3; 02-01-2010 at 12:05 AM.. |
