Floor mat catching on the clutch pedal...

Anyone else out there with the manual transmission having problems with the clutch pedal catching on the front of the floor mat?

I can solve the problem by moving the floor mat all they way towards the drive seat, however it does look very nice.

I wonder if they gave me floor mats for an E46...?

Yep... Same problem here. It just doesn’t stay in place and tends to creep up towards the front pedals eventually catching the clutch.

Hmmm, no problem here so far at 3000 kms.

But what you have seems potentially dangerous.

You should get the dealer to look at it; I'm sure they'll fix it as they wouldn't want to be litigated if an accident arises as a result of a stuck clutch pedal.

If it keeps sliding try some 3m double sided tape to keep it stuck in place..or something adhesive but not permanent so that if you ever need to take your mats our for cleaning you still can.

It used to happen to me, because at delivery they didn't install the floor wafers that grab the velcro pads on the back of the carpeted mats. Once I forced them to install everything properly, there was no more sliding.

I will have the floor wafers installed at 1,500 miles when I have the oil & filter changed.

It seems to me that even with the floor mat locked down in it's normal location, the clutch pedal will catch. I will have to look at some other E90s on the lot to see if they gave me the wrong mats...

The floor mats they game me at the dealer came with a small plastic bag that had hooks. I didn't put look at the bag for weeks until my mats started to move. The hooks are screwed into the carpet so they stay down and then they insert into a hole you have to punch in the mat. Works pretty well.

These are rubber mats with a BMW emblem. Maybe such kits can be bought separately, if you didn't get them.

the velcro circles work OK for a year or so. The hooks are the better way to go IMO.

I was suffering with this for a while myself, but it was mainly the way I was getting in my car... I park right next to a car in my garage and there is not a whole lot of room. So when I get in my car in the morning I open the door carefully so as not to put a dent in my dads 911, and then I carefully squeeze into my car trying not to scuff my foot on the door. This is generally done with my right foot planted on the mat and me doing some acrobatics which moves the matt forward. Once I sit down I use my foot to hold the front of the mat were I want it and straighten it out with my hand from there I dont have any problems all day...

Yep... I have the same problem.... it doesn't happen all the time, but I know that it happens more than once a week :mad: .

I have the same problem with my BMW rubber mats. The carpet mats are fine and don't tend to creep forward. Actually, they probably do creep but just don't catch the clutch pedal.

driverseven, did you have to screw into the floorboard or just the carpet. I recall getting some hardware with the rubber mats but I'll have to dig it up and double check.

I have the rubber mats and don't have any problem with them getting caught on the clutch pedal.. They come with 4 plastic hooks that you have to screew into the floorboard. The problem is that the holes in the mats are just the same size as the hooks so you have to make sure you get the hooks in the right place. Then the mats don't move at all.

The problem I had with the carpet mats was that my heal would get caught on the edge of the BMW emblem. With the rubber mats, no problems what so ever. In fact I think the rubber mats look better and will end up leaving them in all year..

Floor wafers? Are these found with the carpet mats? Any pictures? I don't think I got these and this sounds like a solution.

My dealer forgot to install the floor mats for me when I picked up my car. I picked them up a few days later and installed them myself. The front mats comes with two velcro wafers, two for each front mat, that you screw into the car. On the backside of the mat, there are two round velcros that you line up with the wafers.
At first my mat was catching on the clutch also. I moved the mat forward and it's fine. Try moving the mat as forward as you can without covering the gas pedal.
These carpeted floor mats could've been designed better.

I have clear rugged durt catcher rubber matts that do just fine and look great!

I can see the factory carpeting below the clear rubber matts which make it easier to accept, knowing that the're not genuine BMW matts.
