somone should make this a reasonably priced aftermarket kit... eg, I honestly dont care if its actual bmw, just something that hides away, and has audio integration into stereo etc...

1. The 2nd gen monitor and i-drive can be installed into 1er (at least instead of CCC)
2. To activate Navigation one's will need activation code linked to VIN... So until there is no official upgrade kit form BMW - it will work as a media-center but with no Navigation function.

As stated above, a swap of components (HD screen and CIC computer) work 90% plug and play - the HD screen requires a completely different video cable and a power connector to be connected in the 1 Series, the CIC plugs right in the existing Quadralock- but requires a set of FSC codes from BMW to enable the Navigation and Voice Activation.

I will be doing an iDrive swap in my MY2008 E90 M3 once the MY2010 CIC is available to order from the dealer (the HD screen, the cables, connectors and controller are already acquired or found) and a DIY thread will be created then. It should be applicable to the 1-Series as the CIC P/N is the same as the 3-Series.

Sounds good, please let us know when you've done this.

Technic, sounds like great info! A few things. Do you already have navi now (with CCC)? and want to upgrade to CIC? or you like me with no nav at all?
also,I believe not only the FSC codes are needed, but you'll need to change the VO(vehicle order) of the vehicle for this to be recognized by the vehicle..for example ,opt code 609 needs added.. just like adding satellite radio (655) for example.
Keep us posted ,I am planning myself to do this ..most likely will not be cheap , but it's a challenge

I'm doing a swap not a retrofit, so no need of any change of VO for me. It will need coding and the FSC, though.

The big hold up is the monitor they can't even order it yet, apparently its still unavailable for parts? Can any one verify this?

So $2783.81 Not including the price of the monitor and not including programming (which they charged me 145$ to program my alarm.)

If you are going to do it now you will save about $600.

However you still need to spend 2,000+ On any of the screens if you don't already have it. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...01&hg=65&fg=45
