Ward's 10 Best Engines 2006

BMW's 3L DOHC I-6 wins Ward's 10 best engines for 2006.

Quote:
Ward's 10 Best Engines list is completed by BMW AG's new 3L DOHC I-6. BMW engineers have dramatically improved the company's hallowed inline 6-cyl. design to produce more power while simultaneously delivering markedly improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.

True to BMW's heritage for sophisticated engineering, the new BMW 3L inline 6-cyl. employs an innovative new construction technique of magnesium and aluminum for the engine block that enabled significant weight reduction.

All the more reason why it doesn't make sense for BMW to develop a 3.5 L inline 6, as in the much rumored 335i.

Hmm...I've been very quite on this subject. Must bite my tongue... I will state that I am uncertain about a NA 3.5 L. Time will tell.

why cause they're getting praised for the one they have?

Big deal. If they can do better, they will and get even more praise...not to mention, more sales.

No.

Because it takes beaucoup dollars to develop an engine, and then mega dollars to certify it with the govt agencies with respect to emissions etc.

Why not get it right with 3.5 L in the first place? Especially when it first debuted 2 years ago in Europe in the 530/630, which would most benefit from a larger displacement engine?

Jeez, Ward - I never knew your recommendations/lists were so venerated. You happened to have "10 Best BBQ Grills" as well? I'd be interested.
