Wreck at the 'Ring, BMW Ring taxi involved
Guys,
Saw this on the "Save The Ring" page this morning while checking my FB. Very bad and not good PR for Nurburgring AG. Still wondering why they still allow construction repairs on open track days. Link to Polezei report: http://www.polizei.rlp.de/internet/n...=1&pagesize=10 There is also a picture of the aftermath, 1 BMW Ring Taxi, 1 Porsche, 1 'Vette, 1 E36M3, 1 E30 325i, 2 Opel Speedsters and one car that I couldn't tell what it was. It is getting dangerously crowded out there. **EDIT** The car at the end that I couldn't identify is a E92M3. Another article about the wreck.... with more pics. http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.ph...temid=300088#1 And now Jalopnik... http://m.jalopnik.com/5845899/rented...130k-in-damage

it's like the wild west out there...
I like the uncontrolled nature of it but that's until some douche plows into my car because he didn't upgrade his brakes.... that being said, I need to take another run also before they shut it down for PC or insurance reasons.... |

WoW Nick, thanks for telling us about this!
Here are some pictures I found on the web... I also found this video of a guy in a MINI (i think?) running just after teh wreck happend! The accident scene is at 5:04 - you can see even the accident happened how little warning the TF cars had of an accident scene or construction work. On the autobahn they gove you more warning signs than those poor guys had on the track yesterday! Also check out the video at 6:24 too. |

Someone just made the video you just posted private Dack. Here is another video, but before the accident. And this continues to amaze me.....WHY IN THE HELL DOES NURBURGRING AG ALLOW WORK TO BE DONE WHILE THE TRACK IS OPEN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
They did that one time last year when I went to the track. That is stupid. Also, do you notice in the pictures how the only sign that was up is the trailer sign? Thay should have placed that sign before the curve.....not after it. Here's a vid I found of a guy coming up on the repair area before the accident. It's also posted on the Save The Ring FB page. See how fast he has to drop down on speed.

I bet Nick its bc the 'Ring management doesn't want to cut into the R&D "test drives" for the various automobile manufactures in and around the 'Ring(durring the work week). Their bread and butter is from all the German car makers paying them big bucks to keep the Ring open and clear for them. Instead they do the most riskiest thing... and make repairs durring TF evenings and weekends. I bet more on the weekends bc then the German workers get paid more! There is NO EXCUSE... they should have had aleast another sign 300m (min) before that trailer sign! I wonder about the possible (future) law suits. Perhaps that is why the video I posted has "gone to private"! Great find on that video Nick. Looks like the one I posted went private. |

There IS an electronic warning sign when you enter the 'Ring (toll gates). I really don't know how useful they are to the drivers though. I think its more for the crowds of poeple hanging out in that area - to know whats going on.
Just in case you thought this was an isolated incident of poorly placed roadworks signs with no warnings: go to 07:46 to see the "close call". PS: It is kind of weird how every video showing the track at the time of the (accident) eight car pile up - has been deleted or been moved to private. ??? |

New Video!!!!
This video shows the wreck and the subsequent accident where the 'Ring taxi PLOWED into the 'Vette. You have to scroll to 9:35 on the video as he startspicking up speed. You will also see after the Carrousel as they are recovering another vehicle from ANOTHER accident

People need to learn to not to come to a complete stop to look, clog up the flow of traffic, and extend the log jam. All it takes at that point is another driver who's slightly distracted to come flying in...

What was killing the whole situation was that Porsche lying in the middle of the road. But from what i've heard, most of everyone was saying that they should have had the trailer before the curve, not after it and also the location of it on the left of the curve instead of being on the right where everyone would have seen it before coming to the curve at speed.

^^What a wild video look at the live event/crash!
I also saw this on bridgetogantry.com - here is what they had to say... Getting the facts straight. *The Corvette was NOT a rental *The Ring Taxi was NOT driven by Sabine (she hasn't worked for the 'Ring Taxi since it changed management this Spring) *This accident was simply the result of placing a massive slow sign close to the racing line, in a blind spot on one of the fastest bends on the whole track. The roadworks zone WAS signposted on the massive illuminated board after the gates, with the whole of Kesselchen flashing as a caution zone. But with no english translation, and no briefing to even draw attention to this sign, it is largely ignored. Even by Nürburgring employees driving Ring Taxis! There are only two solutions to this that I see; a speed limit on the whole track during TF OR a better flagging system or other warning system (i.e. upper management treat the guys on the nordschleife zufahrt better please, spend some of your millions down there instead of at the f*cking ring-werk - we need more flag marshalls and more warning lights please) http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.ph...&Itemid=300088 |

all these camera angles are great to prove negligence...unfortunately it's clearly stated that cameras aren't allowed....I think the 'ring management will find a way to blame us enthusiasts. To prevent video evidence from showing up in the future, they'll start inspecting cars for cameras in the future to prevent us from documenting their negligence.
