2011 N55 issue: clutch/throwout bearing/flywheel?
Need to diagnose an issue I have with my 2011 N55 135i:
Mileage: 74,000 - When engaged in first gear and pulling forward - clutch vibration coming from the pedal and small noise from front end. - When parked and engaged in first gear with cluch pressed - no noise - When in neutral, ebrake on - noise coming from the front end - When at 60mph and in 6th gear - car pulls no issues Car drives and moves quick no issues. There is no slipping. The only issue is the noise. When my friend had it on the lift, he could not tell whether it was throwout bearing or flywheel. Has anyone experienced this before? Thanks in advance! |

Since then I bought new flywheel and ready to head to the shop, but wanted to get your input first. Anyone experienced this before? Just drove it for 80 miles this morning. It pulls hard, no hesitance or issues. But when it slows down, the clutch pedal vibrates and it's making noises when clutch is not engaged. |

Having similar issues. Clutch holds strong, but trans area is making a noise when clutch is out (engaged). Pushing the clutch pedal in makes the noise go away. There is also some clunking/grinding when pulling away from the curb in 1st and when doing low speed/rpm gear changes.
There doesn't seem to be any consensus on any forum on what might be wrong. Might as well just replace EVERYTHING... clutch/flywheel/pilot bearing/throw-out bearing/seals and check the input shaft for unusual wear. |

Figured I would update my own thread.
It turned out a small rivet has detached from the Flywheel and caused for the flywheel to rumble. I had to replace the flywheel, and since was already there, my mechanic also changed the clutch. See for pictures: And here you can see the clutch all scratched up: |

Yeah, I think it's my dmfw rattling. A DMFW might provide a bit more ride comfort, but they sure don't hold up that well. Moving to a steel SMFW after seeing so many Audi/VW complaints of the same DMFW issues failing as early as 20k miles.
