Single turbo budget?

For those that have gone, or researched the single turbo route: What is a realistic budget? This assumes the car is able to handle the single turbo. And lets also assume we are staying under 450 whp. I see kits in the $7,000 to $8,000 range. If I assume another $1,000 for missing pieces and $1,000 for installation, am I close?

Could someone get a reliable single turbo setup installed for under $10,000?

That would be a waste of money you could get the stockers pretty close to 450 hp. Even stage 2 would be a good deal cheaper for 450hp. single turbo are for freeway runners only. Imo.

I agree. But if you wanted to do that, what is a reasonable budget?

I think 10k is a good number maybe a little cheaper, probably not over 10 though.

Thanks. I am not saying it makes sense. But how many of us ONLY do things to our cars that make sense

Is anyone considering that you will need a new clutch to hold the power. I went with the DocRace kit and just in parts you're looking at $5999 plus $1900 for a spec stage 2 and a single mass flywheel. Granted my shop told me it's the most complete kit they have ever seen, it still takes a lot of labor.

As far as going single it's not all about reaching the same power level as the twins. Consider the ease of turbo replacement in the future. How open the engine bay will be for future repairs. No more wastegate issues. Going single makes far more sense than stage 2 if you stop and look at the big picture.

Id add another 2k for fueling since the ST's need meth or 100% E85 PI to really use their power.

Id also add another 1k to the install costs. Around Denver it can be done for 2500ish at a decent indy.

On3Performance has an ST kit for cheap ($3k) that so far is well reviewed.

Yes it will make more power with meth but a walboro 450 drop in pump is all that is really needed. You can run a e85 mix with the drop in pump and get to the 600's. When the DocRace kit was reviewed it made great power on pump gas and 750 whp on C16 race gas.

I guess the biggest question here is are you installing it or a shop?

jpworks/doc race- 3-4k with front mount intercooler.
Chargepipe with bov- 500
Choice of meth and stage 1 lpfp - 500
Or PI and stage 2-3 lpfp- 1500
Upgrade plugs- 100
Jb4 and back end flash- 600

If im missing anything I'm sorry did this quickly. Round about numbers and I'm positive you can find these cheaper if bought used.

Although still fresh to the market, the On3 kit is ~$3k and comes with almost everything needed for the setup, except fueling upgrades, plugs, etc. For a goal of 450whp, you should be fine without PI or meth; depending on access to e85 and what LPFP you have/want.

As mentioned, there’s cheaper options than going single for only 450whp. I made that on stock turbos, FBO, w/ e60, etc; before inlets went in. If it’s a case of reliability, it makes sense, but I would bet $100 that 450whp will be met before you know it and you'll be wanting more. I would suggest buying supporting mods that leaves your some head room for when you want to turn it up …cause eventually, you will!
