6FL iPod question

Hey guys, just purchased a 2011 135i with the Harmon-Kardon Logic7 system, no iDrive and the 6FL USB/Aux port under the armrest setup. When I plug in my 4th gen iPod touch using a regular usb cable, it charges but the radio doesn't recognize it...also tried with a Y-cable I got off Amazon, same deal; charges but doesn't recognize. When I go into audio settings under USB, it just flashes between "insert USB" and nothing. Help!

Maybe try the genuine USB Y-Cable, sounds like the amazon one is dodgy

I'll shoot over to the local dealership tomorrow and see if they will let me try a cable, but I feel like a Y cable is a Y cable is a Y cable, how could a BMW one be any different?

Well its not just a Y cable, there is a chip in the cable that does some data processing and this allows the car to read the ipod. (because ipods/iphones store data differently)

I'm not saying it will work, but it sounds like with whatever cable you bought, the car can't read your ipod through it.

Ahhh, I didn't know the bmw cables had chips in them, perhaps that will work. Thanks!

Yeah give it a go and report back. You got a link to the cable you bought?

BMW cable worked. Pays to know a service advisor, he happened to have one lying around and just gave it to me!

Hi Alfredo - to confirm you did this in your 135i (says you drive a 335i). I have a 135i with the 6FL and the stock "professional" radio. Tried the Y-cable and it didn't work.
