Thx, i'm considering downpipes to increase the sound but a bit extra power is always welcome

With catless DP CEL is a given. In some very rare cases the CEL might not illuminate.

Thx.
I have installed it along with a Akrapovic evolution system (with the wireless kit)... sounds superb with the valve open and very intense and addicting !!

but when the valve is closed its very smooth and close to stock.

It pulls very strong on mid range with good throttle response.

Evolve

Evolve automotive have a stage 3 tune for the 1M, which includes DP made by Supersprint and an EvolveR tune - no CEL issues.

Of course, that line of coding has been turned off.

1M dumps

I replaced a mid pipe last week on a IM so i did a comparison of dumps looking from the dump outlet as we have many stock cats in stock .
I could not see any difference, the cat component looks the same as a stock 135/335 cat, i reckon the extra power comes from a better tune i guess time will tell.

In which way.. Do we have any hard data to justify this claim.

Does the 1M have less restrictive high flow cats as OEM, as the actual 1M DP's are very similar to the 135i/335i.

I believe that they have different part numbers.

Yes, and the 1M DP's flows a lot more air than the typical N54 versions.

Can anyone running catless DP's comment on the smell? I know the turbo motors run cleaner than NA but I just dont know if I'd be able to live with it.

I have been told by several buddies with N54 motors that running no cats smells BAD especially in traffic. I was going to go with cat free DP but after talking to them I am leaving them and just doing post cat 1 section back.

Although the direct injection engines run more efficiently you will still get the unburned hydro carbon smell, especially if you were just sitting in traffic. If you were to keep the oem mid pipes in place, the smell is cut down a bit.

Well I don't sit in traffic much, but I still have a pretty good nose according to my friends that share wine with me and I have never smelled anything since putting in DP 4000 miles ago bearing in mind that still have the mid-pipe cat.

I have the MadDad midpipe and OEM downpipes (among other things, see sig).

When I asked MHD whether I should run stage 1+ or stage 2+ OTS maps, they recommended stage 2 for the 1M. On stage 2+ maps, at WOT power deliver is smooth and logs look good but above about 5k RPMs actual load is slightly lower than load requested. Part throttle is perfect up to about 60% pedal input, but I have power surges if I ask for anything between about 60% to 80% pedal input. This occurs on 91, 93 or 95 octane maps (properly fueled). Just yesterday I decided to shell out another $49 for the Stage 1 pack, and flashed Stage 1+ 93 Octane. So far it seems the surging issue is solved.

My suspicion is that despite the 1M having better flowing downpipes/high flow cats compared to other N54 cars, they are not quite good enough for Stage 2+ power levels.

I’ve done the same and also have some cut out mid pipe cats here. The 1M and 135i cats in the DP’s look identical to one another. They also look identical to the mid pipe cats I’ve got here. I’d wager the different part numbers are perhaps different cone angles/dimensions for the front/rear of the cats or something minor like flange angle.

I’ve crudely measured the mid pipe cats with a small piece of cardboard with a ruler drawn on and got 440cpsi.

No hard data that I’ve seen. Mine are still visually the same as the mid pipe cats and still ceramic (I’ll measure them soon) but I estimate 440cpsi like the mid pipe cats. Something like a HJS Euro 4 is going to flow better for sure, and catless better again. Going fully catless on an N54 smells terrible though I would not recommend it.
