Someone on E90post did some AIT logs comparing the Dual cone intake vs the Cold air intake, there were some minor difference but not any major improvements. I still think the CAI has way too many bends and the piping is too small, but nothing to back that up with.

If your concerned with HeatSoak go for a new FMIC, that will provide the biggest improvements with HeatSoak.

a new FMIC would be the best solution to get rid of heat soak

Actually, Water/meth injection is the solution not changing out ICs. I'm coming over from a MiniCooper board and have gone threw 4 IC. With the Mini it was tough to beat the stocker - some aftermarkets were better at lowering temp but at a cost of pressure drop and vis versa some loss less pressure but at a cost of temp drop.

Changing out to a bigger bad-ass looking IC is cool but you get little bang for the buck. Water/meth on the other hand, you can drop temps below ambient. If you add water/meth but do not tune for it, you will get minimum HP gains but FULL temp gains.

Gotta disagree with you there, its been proven by multiple sources that the stock FMIC is plagued by heatsoak and almost all aftermarket FMIC out there for our car provide better AIT, no heat soak as well as nice gains with the pressure drop. The bang for the buck in my opinion on a new FMIC is very very good and its going to be my next mod.

Water/Meth is a nice mod but I do not think I will ever go this route, its not something that your average driver is going to need and the install is far from easy compared to the FMIC. Lower AIT temps from an FMIC install on the other hand is something everyone can benefit from.
