Electronic Burning Smell from A/C after Alpina Flash
Hello all,
I tried posting this in the electronics section, but no hits. So gonna try here. I have a weird issue with my car. I did the Alpina B3 transmission flash almost 2 weeks ago. While I was driving home I could smell as if something was burning coming from the vents/dash area. I even pulled over to see where it was coming from but I couldn't locate it. I continued home and the next day I checked the fuses for the gauge cluster and the HVAC, but they all looked fine. The car drives fine and all equipment (ie radio, A/C, IDrive) are functioning properly, but I'm still getting that electronic burning smell from the vents. I've even peeked inside the ECU box and it looks fine. No codes either (via JB4). Could it be related to the transmission flash somehow? Seems odd to me that it would. I'm gonna go back and have the transmission flashed back to stock just to make sure(it also didn't make much of a difference for me in manual mode, which is what I use like 99% of the time) Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I'm out of warranty. |

I find that almost impossible to believe. The Alpina flash doesn't change any voltages or anything along those lines, it's 100% OE alterations to the TCU logic. So i'm not sure what it could even physically do that could fry a piece of electronics - certainly not in the DME box.
I would check your engine bay for something melting or burning there.

Check your heated washer jets on the inside of the hood. They often short out and burnt up. let your nose lead the way. You'll see.

edit: Just checked them and the smell is not coming from there. They also work fine. Pulled a few codes from the JB4 though while I was at it and got these: 2a80, 2a85, 3100, 30D0, and 2ef5 the first two are VANOS related apparently, which has me kinda worried. The last one is related to the thermostat also ( Last edited by Top Gon; 10-30-2014 at 10:40 PM.. |

If the waterpump went, you would know. The car isn't subtle about it - it basically won't move.
But yea...Burning smell + Anything related to the car's cooling system. That scares me.

Yeah. I'm gonna clear the codes and see if they come back. I emailed bms also and they told me I may have to replace or clean both Vanos solenoids.
It's weird that I'm getting all these codes but the car drives fine and holds boost. Sigh |
