I assume you mean the xenon bulb, so:
Its is a 12V 35W D1S 5000K Xenon Gas bulb. Part number 63217217509 It costs about $300-400 from dealers. You could go aftermarket but it will be hard to find a bulb that is the same color as the stock bulb, in which case you will need to buy 2 and replace both bulbs. Just an FYI, the xenon bulb is powered by a high voltage transformer (the ballast). And either this, or the bulb could be the cause of the left headlight not working. |

Thanks for the very thorough reply ! I have the car on a lot right now for sale. Dealer wanted me to get a bulb. I just need something to sell it. Hopefully it's just the bulb! Thanks a lot though I'll keep all that in mind!

Easy way to determine if its the bulb is to swap the working bulb onto the bad headlight - if it works, good - you just need a new bulb. If its still not working, you'll need to replace the ballast.

Update: changed the bulb, didn't fix it so I guess it's the ballast. BMW wants $550 new. Any ideas on where to get a used one for cheap? Will it need coded once it's installed ?

Yeah try wreckers, ebay, etc. You will need to remove the front bumper to get to xenon ballast though.
