I wonder if connecting it to a charger would do it.

I suppose it might but maybe not: The battery is in great shape. A charger should just look like a great battery, right?

It's worth a try, but I am hoping there is a software fix like telling Carly "Proceed anyway!"

Is there a workaround?
I believe you can code with the engine running. This should have a higher voltage reading. Have you tried that?

Good point. I think I tried that with the old battery.

I haven't tried that with the new battery. I will.

Thanks.

Just purchased a Carly... does anyone know if it’s possible to activate the rear fog lights when the front fogs are on?

Hi Luis,

I think the only way to get the rear fogs to work is to either mod the existing headlight switch or replace it with the Euro switch that has the rear fog button. I did not see that option in the Carly app when using it recently to code my 128i.

Its actually easy to modify the existing switch module to allow for using rear fog lights- it took me 15-30 minutes and I'm not the most mechanically gifted person. I should have taken pictures for a DIY, my bad.

1) Remove switch module- consult youtube
1a) Look at the switch module. See where the front fog lights are? The OEM button is right below that, it looks the same just with no symbol on it.
2) Disassemble switch module- if I remember right its just a few screws. Be careful with the circuit card, don't yank the wires.
2a) The front plate should have the buttons and the knob- this is what you want to modify.
3) This is the hard part. The reason you can't press the rear fog button normally is because there are little plastic tabs holding the button up. You're removing these. It's easiest if you remove the rear fog button itself- you need to press in some tabs and pull out at the same time (I think). Good luck, there's not a whole lot of space.
4) After you have the button out, cut off the plastic tabs.
5) Reassembly is opposite

And thats how you save $125 by enabling the rear fog lights without buying the euro switch module.

Just received my Carly...it didn't come with any instructions.

Just plug it in and start the APP? I have an Android phone...

Can I leave the device plugged in and just exit the App, or do I have to remove it until I use it again?

TIA

Check out my DIY for manually modding existing light switch to enable fog lamps in rear taillights..the lights and wiring are there, just locked by default.

Plug it in. Insert key and tap start button to wake the car up. Use your phone to find the Carly (for me it sends a wifi signal). Once connected start the app.

I used carly and found it to be a money hungry app. I barely did few codings and for everything that mattered (iDrive settings, battery, exhaust flap open, etc) it asked more money. After having spent nearly $130, it was still asking more money to unlock features. I had enough, I was done. Its just a money hungry company. I decided to refund all my purchases and returned the device.

I haven’t used it as extensively as you but it sure saved me money versus going to the dealer or an independent coder for things like a new battery, etc.

Is there a cheaper coding option?

I have just done the same thing. Turns out for what I want to do it just wants more money. I know other people have had far more use out of it but for me it just doesn't seem worth the money, that and the fact that it freezes up on my Note 8 multiple times. Returned it to Amazon and the Play store.

Please guys, share the secret! I would love to find a cheaper way to code my ride, but I simply cannot locate one.

This app is way cheaper than a single visit to a local coder at a shop, and I can re-use this app and purchased features any time I want, whereas the visit to the shop is more than $100 each time I go through the door, often twice that.

I've been looking at this recently, and it seems to be possibly the best value full function scanner / coder for the DIY market.

It seems Amazon has the android module around $70, then they now charge an annual subscription of $65 for the software, (full function, no extra $ add ons any more).

One benefit is regular updates, downside to the annual charge. I've yet to buy, but can't find a better alternative without spending hundreds / thousands.

What are the alternatives ?
