Sounds like you made the right decision. Hope those things don't happen to me. Yikes!

You could also look into the price of a Route66 warranty through a credit union. It's 5 years and up to 100k, and supposed to be as close to factory as you can get. Covers everything except wear & use items. It's also fully transferrable.

I don't remember what the ECU issue was. I brought it it in for a SES light and heard nothing for a couple weeks and then they told me They replaced the ECU. For the transmisison, I was hearing a gravely sound coming from the transmission and vibration.

Personally, I bought my car at 53k, with a $3500 warranty, have already "redeemed" half of that thru a faulty wiring harness and oil filter housing gasket. Best money I'm probably going to have ever spent. I'm sure to redeem much more than it's worth in the coming months/years. Currently getting a fault under medium hard to hard acceleration, which puts out fault code 002C57 charge pressure control: charge pressure too low. I've searched the web and people are saying it could be a faulty pneumatic wastegate actuator, or my BMW SA said it could have to do with the turbos also. Neither will be cheap. Hurray warranties! |

Having owned an 04 BMW E60 545 w/ 85k miles I expect my car warranty to pay for itself through oil leaks, gaskets, oil leaks, water pump, and oil leaks (E60 v8 owners know what I mean).
In all seriousness there are many high cost items on BMWs. So yes it's a roll of the dice buy the payback is something big goes wrong is well worth it. |

pfft ! don't know what g'tee you've got,
mine covers gas changes < yes a man comes out and puts brand new petrol in the tank> I get brand new high quality filtered air for the tires <I go to any BMW dealer for this> Evian Spring water to top up the washer fluid <again at any dealer> And when my car is in for a service, I can either wait in the lounge and have anything from the Champagne bar or they will drive me home. Also I have a home shopping option... my extended w'tee was pretty cheap considering, works out about $3000/week... chicken feed for us BMW drivers what ho ! |

my extended warranty was unable to cover the only thing I had to fix on the car: the abused clutch
I'm still glad I got it for peace of mind about all of the issues that were reported with the car when I bought it |

For that much money I got an unlimited mile/lifetime bumper-to-bumper warranty from Warranty Solutions (Wells Fargo company) on my 2013. I'd definitely say that was worth it but just for 3years/60k I can't see it.

I got an extended warranty through Fidelity for my 08 135i. So far it has covered a broken window regulator, low pressure fuel sensor, ac evaporator, vanos solenoid failure, water pump, and intelligent battery sensor.
Worth every penny for me.

Depends on how long and how much you drive the car. I bought mine used from a private owner with around 60k miles and under my (non bmw) extended warranty I have replaced: Turbos/lines, brake booster/master cylinder, radio head unit, oil filter gasket, valve cover, water pump, and a few small odds and ends. Totaled over $10k in parts & labor already since I bought the car last May! Well worth it when the car is older!

Thanks for the tip sir after careful research it seems the Route66 is the best way to go. I got a quote of $2400 for 5yr/ 60k, no deductible plus rental car allowance. I have never heard of this warranty but its the best one out there for my car right now. They also offer a 6yr/ 100k for $2800 which I might have to consider as well. I thank you again.

No prob & happy to help. It's also transferrable to a new buyer if you sell the car down the road.

Evaluating Extended Warranties?
You might take a look at this:
http://extended-car-warranty-service...enreviews.com/ I'll be spending quite a bit of time looking at what they offer and prices. |

In all the years and all the cars we have owned not once would an extended warranty have helped.
If I had bought these for every car I've owned after 60K I would have spent more than a any car would be worth. I've always been very diligent about maintenance. A few thousand is still cheaper than any of these extended warranties. |

Well Maybe?

In these cases, all the maintenance in the world wouldn't have prevented the expensive problems. Things like turbo failures, electronic issues, certain kinds of engine and drive line failures, and many other things had nothing to do with how well the car was maintained. Some of these issues were due to poor quality control of parts from suppliers. Others probably were due to poor design although the Germans would never admit to this. Some were inevitable due to physics and age like the failure of head gaskets of engines with aluminum heads and cast iron blocks. Fortunately, BMW has improved it reliability greatly over the last few years. Mercedes not so much as it has sunk to the bottom with brands like Chrysler, Jeep, and Fiat. I would recommend an extended warranty for any BMW or Mercedes if you can find a reputable company. The best choice would be BMW, but it'll cost you. There might be a better value for the money, but one has to be careful in choosing one. An awful lot of these outfits have gone belly up. |
