How to eliminate wheels rubbing on fender
Hey guys,
Owned my 135 for about a month or two now, absolutely loving it. The only thing I don't love about it is the tire rub. If i have anyone in the back seat, it rubs on every little dip in the road, and any corner that i take spirited. Even with just me in the car it will rub on medium sized dips in the road, and with a passenger its very noticable. I have CSL rims on it, 19x10 in the rear, and the rubbing is super annoying. Im running 265/30/19's on the rear currently, and i have ordered some 245/35/19's that will be going on the car this week. I am wondering, will this stop the rubbing? or atleast help? I've already rolled the fenders, it didnt help much in the rear, and after rolling it started rubbing in the front? wtf? Im on stock suspension btw Any insight is appreciated, thanks. and dont worry, i will be respraying the front bumper to fix that god awful black plastidip |

Need to know full wheel and alignment specs, also if fenders are rolled already. I'd hold off on putting a stretched tire on there as a solution for now though.

not sure of alignment, just got the car, its stock M sport suspension, would getting a wheel alignment help? the inner portion of the rears wore significatly more than the middle and outer portions, indicating camber wear or bad toe alignment, and its not very cambered so im thinking it needs the toe re aligned

do you know where it is rubbing? Most likely on the lining? Your tire choice is important as well. 255/30/19 should be sufficient enough IMO to avoid some rubbing. An alignment wouldn't hurt either.

What is your wheel offset (ET??). There should be a casting identification on the inside of the wheel on the spoke or near the hub with an ET marking.

Those rear tires look stretched to hell, and will be worse with a 245 on there. The rim actually sticks out past the fender. You are going to be running in circles until you put rims on that fit the car properly.

You should be able to add some rear camber then you get an alignment. Try to get them to reduce your toe to somewhere between zero and the lowest factory recommended value.
I'd try a 255/30/19 in a small running tire such as a Toyo T1R just to see if that would work. If you still rub, you really need to do the rear brake hub mod that I did, or get different wheels.

I have a square set up of E46 performance package front wheels (8 x 19"; 47 mm offset) that would seem close to the OE dimension. Tires are 225/35 and 245/35, and they all rub on some conditions (no rear passengers yet, so I don't know how much an effect that will have).
Eyeman, I'd be interested in this rear hub mod you mentioned! I'm not crazy about the concept of rolling the fenders, even a little bit. I love the look of the wheels but don't want to rub off paint or scrape sidewalls! I'm considering using the style 68 wheels (m3 rears as 1 series fronts and regular 3 series rears on the rear) but am unsure whether the 8 1/2 x 17 would fit properly. |

Yes, I looked at Tirerack and saw that the spec should be for 30 series rears. The 35s were on the car at purchase time. I asked about rubbing, and the seller said only rarely. I think that is about accurate, especially if I am alone in the car. But rarely means it still occurs, and that isn't a good thing.
I have spoken with a local P-car shop. They told me there is a limited amount of fender rolling that can be performed, can't guarantee symmetry, can't guarantee no pain cracking, etc., and I understand the disclaimers. Running 30 series tires isn't a great idea in MA given road conditions, though, so I'm trying to find a good alternative wheel/tire set up. The style 68s may do the trick albeit at 17". |

I'm having the same problem, but running 245/40/18 in the front and 255/35/18 in the rear with VMR wheels. Got them rolled yesterday, but the front is still rubbing.

Trim the tab between the front fender and the bumper, and add some negative camber.

245/40 is the wrong aspect ratio in the front, and is just over an inch larger in diameter compared to the stock size. 245/35 will fit better, and be closer to the same diameter as the rears.
