ODB2 Bluetooth Scanner + Smartphone App

Hey guys!

I just randomly came across this today, but apparently you can buy a bluetooth OBD2 scanner for 50$ (or less!), and a little smartphone app for 5$ and you can read/delete codes, view performance data, and much much more.

I didn't know about it before, and I thought it would be cool to share. I don't think I can put links on here, but the scanner is called "XiTech ELM327", and the android app is called "Torque Pro".

Anyone has tried it on their 1er? I think this may just be my christmas gift

My cousin and I discussed this the past weekend actually.

He is buying the OBDII Bluetooth adapter and should have it soon, then we will download the App and give it a whirl on his S5, his new RS5, and my 135. I am very interested in this because you can export the recorded data to your PC (and possibly Mac depending which App you get for your smartphone), and overlay that over video. I want to use this in conjunction with my GoPro footage

The app we are looking at is $49.99 - DashCommand and gives you a TON of options for recording data from the car. He is also looking at one of the cheaper ($15 or less) OBDII adapters from Ebay, but I saw that Craven Speed makes an OBDII Bluetooth adapter but it only works with Android devices, and we are both using iPhone 5

I will update you when I have an update.

been using torque pro for a while now with the track recorder plugin, good for recording race with gauge overlays. you can also set up warnings for just about anything.

Last time i checked there is no iPhone compatible device. Apple uses a proprietary bluetooth signal that doesn't interface with them.

I use the torque pro app with my Galaxy nexus and it works well. The only thing is that it doesn't display boost or CATs correctly and there are certain shadow codes it can't clear. Other than that it's a fairly helpful little tool.

I got one of the wifi obd2 readers and am going to try it with my iPhone 5. Don't know which app to use yet. Seems like torque or dash command. We'll see how it works out. My buddy is also using the Bluetooth one with his samsung. I'm sure we'll post up when we get them running.

Ok. Thanks. BMWhat. I've seen that word referenced before but no one ever said what it does. I'm going to check it out when I get my wifi adapter. It says for certain models only so i'll see if ours is compatible.

@Canuck135i Does that proclip mount just clip into the vent grill? i have the same tablet and wanted to do something like this for logging and bring up oil temps and such. The link doesn't really say if it includes the grill clip or however it works. Thanks!

I bought this one.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AOI...&pi=SY200_QL40
Well not exactly that one. I got it from a different seller. But it's the same kind. I haven't got it yet. Hopefully next week or the week after. I'm building my own mount that will place my iphone directly above the start button. From sitting in the drivers seat it will sit directly between the instrument cluster and my radar detector. It will extend from behind the cluster. I'll post something up after I make it. Probably in the post well make after we try out the Bluetooth and wifi adapters and do a little review on them. And probably here to. I'm making it work with the belt clip I have for the phone. So theoretically it will work with any belt clip. We'll see what I come up with. The other member is using the torque program so I'll probably go with dash command to cover a few options.

Cool....same one I had found and was looking at. Guess I'll wait and see how it works for you first.

You need 2 parts.
or
3 parts if you want to use quick release to be able to mount different
things on the dash mount.

1. Dash mount

http://www.proclipusa.com/dashboard-..._leftorright=0

Here is mine (pardon the dust) this shows the vent mount with
the locking move clip mounted on it.

2. Tablet mount

http://www.proclipusa.com/tablet-hol..._leftorright=0

Here is mine

I also swap between the tablet mount and the phone mount.

http://www.proclipusa.com/accessorie...cessories.aspx

Here is the phone mount.

Hope this helps.
