Spark Plug Reading (135is)

Alright, just got done replacing my spark plugs. No idea how long they've been in there but it could be up to 40k miles.

It kinda looks like my car is running a tad rich. Which, sounds about right. Or I could be seeing what I want to see... I get terrible gas mileage. I get somewhere between 12-20mpg on most tanks. Even with relatively gentle mixed driving (good amounts of highway too), I get ~18mpg. Rarely 24-25mpg if I am cruising on freeway the entire tank at a modest speed.

The factory spark plugs come with N55 engine have single ground electrode. The original spark plugs took out from my 2011 135i are Bosch made and they have 57k on it. However, I don't have much mpg impact due to the old spark plugs. Changing the spark plugs is a fairly easy job but time consuming. We just have to remove many covers/ clips/ air filter box/ cowl/ to finally reach the ignition coil.

It's a 135is. It's completely stock. It does come with the PPK or whatever because that's what an IS comes with.

Still, such terrible gas mileage. Struggle to get 18mpg. I just did my 'challenge' tank and I got 17.7mpg. (Challenge means drive rather civilized and all in full auto mode with no sport mode) Included a bunch of freeway in it too. All well.

I have the correct plugs. The 135is has the N55 engine.

Does your area (SF) use oxygenated gas for the winter months?
When was the last time you checked your tire pressure?
When was the last time you changed your air filter?
How many miles on the car?

It's all E10-15, all times of the year but other people with 135i's get better MPG and live here too.

Air pressure is good. Air filter is new. 39000 miles on the car.

Get a ~$25 bluetooth OBD2 unit and the torque app. You'll be able to monitor AFRs, Vacuum, etc...

I'd think running rich would trip a code, but you never know.
