Installing JB4 w/o heat gun... use a t-tap splice?
i recently purchased and started to install a JB4 on my N55 135i. after connecting the easy connections, I opened the ECU box and discovered that the two wires I needed to tap into were covered in plastic and would need a heat gun... which I don't have. i figured that I could use a t-tap splice for these two connections instead and gave it a shot.
the car starts no problem and still has a CEL from the catless downpipes but I'm unable to get the steering wheel controls to work. is my method a viable option or do I absolutely NEED a heat gun to take off the plastic and connect my taps that way? it's possible I didn't make a great connection also, so I'll give that a shot this afternoon as well thanks in advance for your replies and advice =] |

You can get a heat gun for 20$ on Amazon from Wagner, and it works great. Just buy one and do the install correctly per the instructions imo, we're not talking a lot of money.
It's too late to completely go back, but I would never use a tap for ECU wires so that you have to choice to completely revert to stock, and the tap is just yet another point of failure. |
