N55 to N54 swap?

Long story short. I have N55, want N54. Either sell my car and loose alot of money, and then get a used N54 car. Or keep my car, sell N55 engine and buy N54 engine and put in. What would make the most sense money wise?? And in terms of swap(ability) Dont imagine it would be too hard. Ive swapped S52 into a E30, and would imagine that to be more complicated.

Thanks

I really love this car! But Im not a fan of the engine (N55). Id like to keep this car for years, but I know I wont be satisfied with 306HP forever. roughly 400-450 and some wheight loss would do. N55 cant handle the power as a N54 can, regardless of turbos, just not as solid internal.

How kind of numbers are you hoping to put down?

I suggest doing some research on both engines, the N55 is more than adequate. Put the money on an engine swap towards mods and you won't look back.

Plus it gives some more time for tuners to develop the N55.

You are better off selling the car and buying a used car if you really want an N54.

It's not stupid to ask, it would be stupid to do. It would be more complicated than the s52 e30 swap, plus you would end up with a frankenstein car. You would need to calculate the loss of re-sale value in as well. I wouldn't even buy that car period let alone for a 5k discount. The money would be much better spent on your n55. You could build it from the ground up for the money you'd lose. Give the aftermarket some time on the n55.

The question has to be asked then.... why on earth did you buy a N55 car in the first place, instead of an older N54 engined one??

I definately think it will be cheaper, not to mention much easier, to just sell the car and buy a N54 car instead.

I thought the N55 has the same bottom end as the N54... Just different turbo setup and valvetronic.

Not to start ANOTHER n54 v. n55 debate but is there really that big of a difference?? (proven difference, not hearsay difference)

Same as the very late spec N54 bottom end, but the pre-2010 (late 2009ish perhaps) N54 engines had a forged rather cast crank.

If the engine goes it is much more likely to be things other then the crank whether it is forged or not. Deffently not worth it to swap. Switch cars or put money into the n55 and be a little patient.

I bought it in 2010, didnt know much about these (n54,n55) engines. Only learned all the stuff after purchase.
Im still doing the math on what option is cheaper. N55 doesnt seem to be an option if you want more than 360hp(reliable). Ive done extensive research on the topic, contacted: Alpina, G-Power, Kellners, Racing dynamics and so forth. Almost all of them wouldnt consider N55 as solid as N54. Crank, pistons (Mahle vs Moepsian) etc...

I think you may mean Mopisan....??

If so, that company is owned by Mahle GmbH

What defines early/late N54? Is there a manufacturer date?

Are you new?

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showth...light=n55+dyno

No IC, no exhaust except DP, stock turbo, and still pushed 389HP. Give it some time for Terry and others to catch up like the N54. Remember RB turbos for the N54 are new, and imagine what a big single snail would do on the N55. It won't shove out 800HP, but what are you doing with that much power anyway?

Considering he's in Heidelberg, I know what I'd be doing if I were him...Nürburgring is about 200km from there
