Roll Call

After only 3 days of ownership I have already noticed what the most common question is besides "what size is the engine?".

Drum Roll...."what is his/her name?" So after about 48hrs of scratching my head I have given my new baby a name...

Everybody please welcome HEIDI into the world of Melbournian 1ers.

and now this brings up a topic of what you fellow 1ers have called your cars (if you have named them). This is my 7th car and only the 2nd to be given a name.

Not sure if this has been touched on before as haven't had time to check the forum history

Never really named my cars in the past (Only had one though, plus this incoming one.) What do you base the names on? Whatever pops into your head first?

Welcome Heidi to the world! Glad to see you chose a German name as well (like myself!)

My previous car (Subaru) was JoJo, and the Subaru before that was Charlotte.

My BMW is Christine

For me, I usually base it on the country of origin (hence, Christine). However Charlotte was chosen because she was red (redhead - i think Charlotte suits redheads), and JoJo cause she was white (blond )

EDIT: Christine apparently means "Follow of Christ"

I usually name my cars by the number plates and whatever name i can fit the letters available. Had a jag xk120 with the number plate AMI-82P, so for obvious reason i always called her "Amy". The 1'er has plates BJT26Q so i am still a little stumped on what to call her, but leaning toward Billie-Jean.

If anyone else has any ideas please feel free to suggest 'em. i am stumped

I've not named my current E90 M3 but "Master Blaster" would seem appropriate!

Only when they go wrong, and it's not normally a loving name at that point!

The gtr is called the gtr. The stagea the stagea, or stage a and the 135I the blue car.

Took us a while to come up with that one

not really in the habit of naming cars, but we sometimes call the 120d the 'zugsmaschine' - it's German for tractor.

Don't really name my cars either. If I have to refer to it I call it the "BM", as in short for BMW.

Over the years I've had an Adolf, a Herman, and a Geunter (pronounced Goonter - "oo" as in look).

The 135 is "Klumpen" = German for Nugget.

Our wives must be related. I bought a 3 series home for her to look at and she hated it. She had a list of complaints ranging from the shape to the shark fin. We took the car back to the dealer and she pointed to a car in the lot and said thats the car I want. It was identical except the colour was different....??

Greg, they are all like that. On the other hand if you are talking blouses or handbags it's a different story. To me they all look the same.

If you ask me what colour clothes or hair someone I just met had, I would have NO idea. Ask me what car they were driving and I can give you all the details.
