For me personally my car is mainly OK at idle, occasionally it has a split second hiccup where it feels like it is going to stall and then regathers itself just as quick.
Looking online it appears the N54 isn't a smooth idling type of engine, but I have never had another N54 to compare it to really... The main issue I have always had is in say 4th gear doing 60 km/h it is smooth and coasting along it feels like its 'hunting' then if you give the accelerator a prod it smooths itself out. In the past month or so it has gotten progressively worse to the point that occasionally when I go WOT and goes straight into limp. |

If you give me the VIN, I might be able to find out exactly which injector has been replaced.
I don't think we ever did put any sticker on the car for injector campaign. You will be surprise what the dealer can do for warranty issue sometimes. They can actually ask head office for good will even if the car is out of warranty. Just try to complaint that it is been having the same problem for a while. And they don't generally do bare minimum because it makes no difference to a dealership. They actually want to replace more stuff on it if they can fault it, as warranty is paid by head office, as long as the dealer can justify the fault. I think it's just a bit hard these days to find a good experience smart mechanic in the dealership networks. Quote:

What ever happened with this? I'm having misfire and o2 sensor codes thrown. Anyone have a part number for the o2 sensors. Did a log of the misfire. Seeing what terry thinks of it. Talked to dealer and they said they would do good will on the injectors if they are actually bad.

Then a few weeks later it started getting worse again, so i changed both 02 sensors and vanos solenoids and bam it was like a totally different car so much nicer to drive at low speeds being a lot more tractable. So if you havent tried new coils and plugs do that first, then try the o2 sensors (bosch part #17098 x 2. The bank 2 sensor normally comes with a 200mm shorter wire, but the excess wire left over from using a front bank sensor in the rear bank is easily coiled up neatly) |

Here are two SIB's that might be helpful to you guys. Also in the second one is the round sticker shown that should be on the driver's door jam(not under the hood).

Sorry to bring up an old thread but im having the same issue as code 2c9c is thrown up. I am on limp mode and not having any boost at all. The error codes only started playing up after i serviced the car with the dealer yesterday. Im suspecting its the o2sensor but i dont feel misfiring ? will this happen if it's the injectors?

Hey guys it might be worthwhile checking out all of your vacuum lines. I did some research and it's actually a very common problem on these cars, especially once they're a a few years old. Inspect them closely for any leaks, especially the 2 lines around the oil filter housing as they seem to deteriorate the fastest. Sometimes these issues can be something as small as a boost leak. If it does need replacing, get some 3.5mm silicone hose and swap it out. GL.

Fuel injector issues
Sorry, I know this is an older thread but I'm looking for some advice...
I have an '08 135i and have recently started having the dreaded issues w/ my fuel injectors. The first time the car lit up with the "check engine soon" light. I took it into the dealer and they "switched the injectors into different banks" to see if that would fix the issue. I'm not all super engine savy but I wasn't too sure what changing the banks the injectors were in if they were faulty would do, if anything?? It ended up "working" (as it turned off the check engine light), however they said the injectors may still fail and cause the car to throw a code again (in which case I would need to bring it back) and cost over $500. Fast-forward 2 months later and the check engine soon light is lit up on my dashboard like a Xmas tree. I'm pretty confident they are going to say I need to replace the injectors this time (which I've read can cost upwards of $2000). My questions are: 1. I've had 2 HPFP replaced under the warranty/recall - should the injectors have been inspected at that time? A couple of comments in this thread make me think they should have been replaced at one of those visits 2. I am now out of the 4 year warranty - is this something that should be covered under the campaign (as posted by Dackelone)? I guess I'm not certain what the difference is between a campaign vs recall. I sure as hell do not want to pay for yet another service visit. Would it pay to contact BMW NA? I'd appreciate any advice/clarifications. |

My experience with BMW hasn't been good.
Supposedly 3 of 6 injectors replaced under warranty only. You are lucky to have had your HPFP replaced under warranty, if they actually did so. I would think you would be blessed if you get anything out of them post warranty. Go to your nearest reputable BMW tuner (Advan, Hills Euro etc.. in Sydney) (Southern BMW ...Melb) and determine what codes your car is throwing before planning a course of action.

If the ecu is trying to adapt around a dodgy injector(s) then the adaptation for that bank (front 3 or rear 3 in a 6 cylinder N54) will be different to the other bank. Swapping injector banks (ie: moving injectors 1,2 and 3 to positions 4,5 and 6 and vice versa) should see the adaptation follow the dodgy injector (can't tell which one but you can identify it's one or more of the 3). If this has happened they'll probably want to at least replace 3 injectors. They're about $650 each I think.
You have any misfiring at idle or when driving? |

No misfiring that I've noticed. Except the nice bright "check engine soon" light I can't tell anything is wrong. It idles and accelerates fine, and even sounds normal.
I guess what I'm concerned about is that even if it's only 1 or 2 injectors that are misfiring, from what I've read, BMW requires all 6 to be replaced even if it's only 1 injector. Disclaimer, I saw that this is an Aussie thread and posted even though I'm in the states. This thread seemed to most closely match the issues I'm having. |

BMW don't require all 6 to be replaced unless you are combining index - 10 injectors with index -11 or - 12. Otherwise you just code in the values off each injector and you're good to go.

I'll chime in also. Seems to be the common items are HPFP, Injectors, and Coils.
In my case, it was the heavy-rough low-power to no-power when pressing the gas peddle. And check-engine. It was throwing the codes for a couple of the injectors. The 1st guess before checking the codes was Coils though, which I would expect would be a much cheaper. Likely cause was a seriously bad gas station I had stopped at, and got some bottom-of-the-barrel water+dirt+gas. Sunzabeeches. We ended up doing one of the coils, and all of the injectors. The disappointing part of all of this was that apparently the recall is no longer honored by BMW NA. I'm surprised that that a 2010 recall wouldn't be honored. The impression I got was that after a certain point, BMW NA stops honoring certain things for certain model years. In any case, car runs great after replacing the injectors (and the 1 coil). We did plugs at the same time also. ( HPFP was replaced on recall a long time ago... ) I don't mind a full fix like this if it's the good fix. Still feel like BMW NA should have covered the injectors if they were original and known to be bad. |

Follow-up
Just in case anyone was interested...
The dealership told me I was too far out of warranty (2008 135i) to qualify for a goodwill repair on the fuel injectors so I ended up contacting BMW NA to request a goodwill repair. They said it was close, but given the low mileage (less than 47,000) it may still be an option. Both myself and BMW NA called the service manager to discuss options. Slowly fast-forward 3 weeks later after repeat phone calls from myself and BMW NA. The service manager never did call me back, but the BMW NA rep let me know he did agree to cover %60 of parts and labor. The day I take it in, the windshield wiper fluid pump also decides to go out. So between 6 new fuel injectors (%60 cost-covered), a new wiper fluid pump, and oil change, I'm out the door $1800. What a bargain... The car is good x3 days and then one morning starts to shudder on acceleration and throws a check engine light. I pull over, let the car sit about 5 minutes and then restarted it; which seemed to reset everything and no check engine light. I take the car back to the dealership for what I perceive to be a piss poor service. Now they're telling me that it could be a coil(s) are likely going bad that it is a completely separate issue from the fuel injectors. I asked if the coils could have been clouding/contributing to my previous issues and if they should have also been checked as part of the fuel injector replacements?? The SA says no, it "probably would have thrown a different code". I ask the cost of this new issue, "$300 - $1800 depending on the number of coils that need replacing". Now, I expected some additional costs of ownership above and beyond a Honda/Toyota, but this sh@$ is getting ridiculous. I mostly baby the thing, change the oil every 5000 miles, and haven't ever tracked it. I'm now sitting on my 3rd HPFP, 6 new fuel injectors, and now need new coils- all under 47,000 miles?? I'm a little disappointed in the lack of reliability to say the least. |
