Track Tire Question
<UPDATED WITH OFFSET & BACKSPACING>
I just got a new set of wheels and tires (below) to track my stock '08 135i. I thought I found a thread that said 245/40/18 would work on the rear w/o any rubbing. Now today I see some folks complaining about rubbing at that size. I figure it could be the specific tire that makes the difference so if anyone else has tried this configuration with the Nitto NT01, I would appreciate some feedback so I can know if I should mount them or return them for another tire. Wheels Front: 18x8 ASA AR1 SML Offset: 40mm Backspacing: 6.10" Rear: 18x9 ASA AR1 SML Offset: 45mm Backspacing: 6.80" Tires Front: Nitto NT-01 225/40ZR-18 Rear: Nitto NT-01 245/40ZR-18 Last edited by frmla1fan; 03-24-2010 at 11:54 PM.. 245/40/18 is tall, and if the offsets are low then that will 100% cause rubbing issues. post that info and I'll let you know. |

That's an aggressive offset wheel for our cars. For daily driver use you'd probably be fine, especially if your suspension is not lowered. On the track I'm pretty sure that will rub a little too much to be tolerable.
I assume you can't get those tires in 245/35?

Nitto doesn't make it in a 245/35, in fact I don't see too many R compounds in that size. And as to the wheels, they were a recommendation from a local shop. I am really just trying to find the best set of wheels and tires to slap on for the track on the weekend. So I am willing to start over if someone can provide a good setup for the track. Everything on the car is stock.
Any help is appreciated. |

a 245/40 is pretty tall, you would be an inch taller in the rear
i would say you will rub if you are lowered, stock, you may get away w/ it |
