Any good car washes in Melbourne?

Do any of you guys use a good hand car wash service?

I'm looking for a good place in Melbourne's inner east where I can send my car for a wash. Unfortunately a bit squeezed for time at the moment.

I use Magic hand car wash on Hoddle street, Collingwood. There are lots of Euro car there. For sometimes there were a lot of Porsche tech bring customers cars there.

They are very good. I had a black car and they are not the only one that I don't need to Meguire scratch X after a wash. Now I have a white car, it is even better.

I can certainly name you some shit ones though.

They are ok but not like the one @ Collingwood. I live around Doncaster as well, just did my 4WD yesterday @ Westfield and they are ok.

Just don't go to the one in Kew. They are good people, but the system they have means that some residue will leave on the bottom of the rear bumper, and they can't do anything about it.

I would say the simple answer is 'no'... but that depends on how anal you are about your wash. Unfortunately Final Inspection no longer to washes as they were the gold standard but someone told me about one in Richmond, on or near Church st i think it was called Formula 1 or something similar... can't find the card for the life of me now but it was recommended to me by a person who was a Final Inspection regular as having a great wash process and if you have a black car that is what you should be worried about so it doesn't become swirl city in a very short amount of time!

Found out the place:

The Wash Depot
31 Adelaide St
Richmond
VIC, 3121
Ph: (03) 9429 3444

Apparently they prefer bookings.

I got my car washed at the glen a couple of times, they did an ok job but they keep drying my soft top with a towel and leaving fluff all over it.

I reckon if you want it done right then do it your self, or in my case my hubby washes it for me.

That's right, just today I tried out the guys at Doncaster Shoppo. They did an ok job but left a lot of swirls especially on the bonnet.

Can't wait til I have more time up my sleeve to pamper the 1 properly.

Doncaster shoppo... which one? There are 2... one on 1st floor and one on ground floor...

To be honest, I won't go to both of them if I had a black car.

The water tank is full at the moment, I am tempted to use it? Any comment on storm water washing cars?

I went to the one on the 1st floor. You are right, I probably won't be going back there. I'll need to polish out the swirls next time round.

Dunno about using the tank water. There would be too many dirt particles that could scratch the paint.

I don't care now... I just found a huge stone chip in my car.

Not worth saving original paint anymore

Can't be stuffed registering in the detailing forum.

I guess it is either too much particle in the water tank or too much salt in the car wash. Plus hand car wash you can get swirl.

I live 300m from a car wash. Should I soap it up at home and rush to hose it off???? Presume I do it in the time that I don't have to queue up for hosing ...

And thats why I have always washed my cars by hand at home...

Have never, ever been happy with any commercial car wash's in Sydney..The time an effort you might save by visiting a commercial wash is always quickly negated by the time spent trying to correct their SWIRLS..

Hmmm I said I can't be stuff registering haha.

Zuzu... there is a fine washing your car at home in Melbourne... if you are using tap water that is. I just realise if my tank water runs out it goes to normal tap water... sweat..

Zuzu, wish we could wash our car at home. Even at those coin operated joints you are not allowed to use buckets and a mitt (hasn't stopped me in the past though). Very frustrating.

Still, I won't go back to those handwash people.

Taka, get that rock chip fixed!

You moviated me now... The prob I have is those chipaway guys will not just fix the chip - they will paint over the whole bonnet. If I go to my panel shop friend, he will just tell me off.

Lucky I have a white car. Blending in colour is not a problem . My next day off is too soon.... hmm I wonder if they do weekends..

~sarah~ will now tell me that original paint does not matter .

Sure... you got the stickers out yet?

Seeing that you have put the pics in your signature... we should have taken the sticker process more seriously.

Car has been at Andrew's as I don't use it anyway. I have a larger radiator that I ordered ages ago but we haven't had the time for Andrew to put it in.

Because the picture is small, you can't see how crap the sticker job is...hang on, my side looks fine. It's the side you did that looks crap!
