Power Window Anti-Trap Error

Received this error along with window not venting on opening driver door. The switch will raise or lower the window about 1/4-1/2" with each activation regardless of how long it is held. I tried disconnecting the battery and the window reset posted in this forum. Not sure if it's a bad motor or software problem. Would an indy shop have the ability to correct if the latter? Advice needed. Thanks!

I have this issue and it drives me nuts! Did you resolve this at all?

I find resetting it (holding down for 3secs and up for 3) helps for a few drives, but the problem always comes back!

You could try to reset the window switch limits. You do this by lowered the window fully, THEN press and HOLD the DOWN window switch for a few secs. Do this also when the window is full UP and you have now told the window motor the full down and up of the window limits. Your windows should work normal after this.

you need a new window motor, the hall sensor internally in the motor is not reading correctly. causing the warning message and the moving in segments.

Thanks for all the advice. Tried several permutations of resetting found here and elsewhere with no luck.

I've replaced a regulator on an E53 X5. Any reason why this would be more difficult?

I haven't done one in awhile. But I think once you get the door panel off and the vapor barrier off, the motor is then right there.

Before I order the motor, I was wondering if the symptoms I'm seeing could be software related instead of mechanical. Anybody?

I'm curious, what procedure did you try to initialize the motor?

I've read many posts with different reset recipes reporting different levels of success. Granted, I haven't found one that has worked for my specific problem.

Here's what I've done:

With ignition on, I raised the window to the max and held the button up for 10 seconds. I lowered the window to the max and held the button down for 10 seconds. When that didn't work, I repeated the process using 17 seconds instead of 10. I also tried with engine running.

I'd be interested in any other recipes.

Alright, try this.. It's straight from BMW so it's sorta confusing, but always works for me.
First you have to de-calibrate the window.. open it all the way, then press and hold the button all the way down (auto) for longer than 15 seconds but no longer than 20 seconds. You were sucessful when the auto-up doesn't work.

Next, close the window all the way, then open it all the way.

Finally, hold the switch all the way up (auto) until it reaches the top..

If that doesn't work (may take a few practice runs, always does for me), then you may need a new motor.. Hope it works!

This can be a common problem with initializing the window with a anti trap fault present. Try taking it to a dealer and have them clear faults and initialize the window through the test plan should fix your problem. Of coarse there could be a physical problem but this would root that out.

Actually i managed to solve my problem.
I dismantled the motor and cleaned the hall sensors and assembled it back and reinitialise windows using ISTA-D and problem never came back.

I purchased a 2013 X1. Owner said it had a bad window motor. Front passenger window will not move with either switch. Other three work correctly. Purchased a used regulator with motor and attached to wiring before installing. No movement. Shut the door. Wires look good. Lock and mirror work. All fuses good.
I had a BCM go bad on my 02 325ci. Could the FCM or BCM stop one window from working?
