Shaking at idle
Hey guys,
Just curious if everyone else's 135's do this. Whenever sitting idle (after warm up), the car noticeable shakes, it's not a violent shake like a misfire but enough of one to notice. Before driving an hour to the dealer I was just wondering if they all do this or if it's supposed to always stay smooth at idle. It's a 2011 N55 135i M/t. Thanks in advance. |

When did you buy your car? On a side note e90post now has a specific n55 sub forum you might want to check out.

Well then you need to update the dme. There are several recalls for your particular model.

do NOT let them reprogram your DME - i had this done at 10k miles and after that the idle got violent so i brought it back to them.
they spoke to Viper who advised them to reprogram the car AGAIN - which made it worse so i brought it back. they spoke with Viper again that advised them to (again) re-program the DME. i got the car back, the idle is no longer violent but still crazier than it should be, and crazier than before the programing update. the car went back in for service for the 3rd time for this issue last friday, and i just stopped by the dealer to check on it (since their phones "dont work" and no one returns phone calls) and they are now pointing fingers at the battery due to a "low voltage" code that the car throws. on a short note - dont do the recalls. |

sorry should have specified - 2011 n55 6speed manual
and viper is some sort of higher up department at BMW in germany - not the alarm company. the car has 0 aftermarket electronics, and only has an axelback exhaust, and drop in air filter. otherwise stock (well...summer tires and black grille but neither of those affect the battery) |

the problem there is that if i go to a diff STEALership, i dont get a loaner.
well see. im actually on hold to speak to BMW NA about this issue - and since its the third time servicing the same car with the same dealer for the SAME issue, im sort of hoping for a lemon - as much as i love this car. |

since when is it 6? i thought 3?
either way my car has surpassed the 18k mileage limit, but i heard that there are still ways to lemon the car when its beyond the 18k miles. just over 1 year and 20.5k miles, and its been in for service a total of 8 or 9 times for various reasons (front brakes, passanger window going down when doing the one-touch up[x3], rear brakes stick when releasing the e-brake) i dont care so much about the window as long as the car performs properly. and it does NOT perform properly IMO. |

Finally! I found someone with same issues
My 2011 135i DCT is having an awful idle/shaking issue. My car has been in the shop 3 times for " after coming to a stop the RPMs jump violently twice before settling in. It has increasing become worse. My car is currently stock and has been since 5k miles.
At 8k miles noticed idle surge At 11k miles dealer performs DME update to correct idle At 13K dealer replaces HPFP Now at 13.5K problem is much worse Please keep us updated, any chance it's a dirty Idle Control Valve or MAF sensor?

sorry for not getting back for so long.
Took it into the dealer, they said they could not find anything wrong, stated that yes, they feel it but nothing was to be done. I am waiting for now, maybe it will get a tad worse and then they can find a problem. until then..... |

This is where/when you escalate. They agree your car is not acting normally but refuse to do anything about it. Or did they say the shaking is normal?

The shake should be so slight that water in the bottle won't shake? I do have that shake if it's the case, and I think it's just normal and won't affect anything.
But if it shakes whenever the RPM settle back to around 750RPM after giving gas, than there might be a problem. I had my DME updated as my battery got recall, the engine does feel smoother. But the engine start shake does remain. Kcc
