Warranty almost up, service question

Just hit 44,000 miles on my car the other day and I'll hit 50,000 miles within the next two months or so since I drive about 23,000 miles/year. According to the BC, my car is due for service in 4,100 miles (rear brakes, I think), but everything else seems to be well beyond that. My question is, the 4,100 miles has been mysteriously unwavering; i.e., it's said 4,100 miles for well over 1,000 miles now. Actually, it went up to 4,200 miles and stayed there for about two weeks recently, but it's since come back down to 4,100 miles. I feel like the car is playing games, just waiting for the warranty to expire, and hence the free maintenance to expire. I'm not much for the whole conspiracy theory crap, but I'm awfully suspicious now! Anyone else experience this type of situation?

Also, once the free maintenance is up, how do I know when to change things like pollen filter, air filter, etc.? I know the BC will continue to tell me when oil changes, brakes, brake fluid, etc. are due.

I think the countdown shanges due to how hard you drive. That is how it is on my car. IF I drive really fast and hard... my next oil change cmes sooner. IF I take it easy... the countdown doesn't change much.

I would just take your car in and have your dealer replace $$$ things like brake rotors and pads while it is still covered. Talk to them and see what they can "do" for you.

The pollen filter should be chaged yearly. I was told the air filter should last until 60K miles. But I just replaced mine at 34K miles. It is very easy to open the air filter up and take a look how dirty it is. What really shocked me was how much crap was up in the filter housing. Lots ofsand and little rocks. Makes me cringe for everyone who runs a K&N-like (gauze) type filter that allows more airflow and hence more junk into the engine. I will stick with OE paper filter - Danke.

You should also see when your brake fluid is due to be changed as well as rear brake pads (our e_diff) seems to burn thru rear pads quickly. What about spark plugs? Engine oil & filter? And brake fluid flush.

OP has a non turbo N51 so plugs aren't called for until 100,000 miles. But that is an item that 135i owners should be aware of at 45k - even if some dealers apparently aren't.

Thanks for the responses. Follow-up question, how does one know what services are required without reading the key like the dealer does? Or, are all the services reflected in the BC? I understand the desire to have flexible service intervals, but man is it a PITA once the free maintenance is up.

I just bought a maintenance extension to 6 years 100k. So, my concerns will be 3 years down the road.

The extension was $2095 at my dealership. This should be cheaper for a 128. You might want to consider this if you plan to own your car for a few more years.
