1st scheduled maintenance question
Howdy guys, I am little confused with the 1st scheduled maintenance:
My car is MY2010 N55 bought it in July 2010. I currently have 22,000 Km. When I first turn on the ignition the computer shows 6000 Km and November 2011 for the next (first) scheduled maintenance. If my mind serves me correctly, isn't the maintenance due on whichever comes first? It's been 1 year plus 2 months now... Thanks for your input, maybe this will save me a trip to the dealership to ask the same question. -Sardius

There has been a lot of confusion about this. My US Warranty/Service manual specifies a yearly oil change if the CBS mileage has not been reached, and that is what my dealer provides. Last year, BMW tried to change that to every 2 years (as it is in Europe, IIRC), but quickly reverted back to the yearly change when folks pointed out this contravened their own published manual.
So I'd suggest checking your Warranty/Service manual first to make certain it says a one year change and then making the service appointment with your dealer. If they claim the computer (or keyfob) does not call for the change until 2 years, show them the manual. I have no idea why it says Nov. 2011, unless that is a calculated date for the expiration of your 6,000 km. Good luck. Tom |

Thanks Tom. I read the manual again (Canadian version) and the funny thing is there is no mention of bringing it in after 1 year or so (for the first oil change and whatnot). The book keeps mentioning to follow whatever the key fob reads.
I am pretty sure the onboard computer showed exactly 1 year or (?)24,000 Km for the next scheduled maintenance until they performed a battery recall not too long ago and perhaps they changed the data?

After my last oil change, I noticed the same thing, the on-board computer said 15,000 miles or two years. The next time I went to the dealer, I asked my adviser and he said it didn't matter and I will get an oil change once a year or every 15,000 miles.
Don't go to the dealer but just call them. Ask them why it says every 2 years and ask if you can get an oil change at one year instead of two. I highly highly doubt they'll say no, but if they do, tell me you were promised oil change every one year for the first 4 years and if that doesn't work, ditch that crappy dealer and just call another dealer. |

"Note: Change oil at least once a year." So (hopefully) you will receive the time based change shortly. Tom |

I just did this myself 2011 128i purchased August 2010 (build date June 2010); went in 8/6/2011 with about 10,400 miles on the clock. Received an annual oil change but they did not reset any service indicators - but did change wipers and filled fluids. Now today, I will be bringing it back in because the vehicle now shows service is due in 400 miles. At this point they will reset the clock, do a full oil change and service.
I have not paid for anything to this point for services performed.
