Leak from bottom of doors

I have a leak from the middle bottom of my doors (specifically passenger side) with grease/oil residue. I've noticed it from washing my car and always having to clean that spot time and again. Is this how it's designed? I can't understand how it would serve as a sort of drain by design but then leak a greasy residue.
I went to the dealership to see if other 1rs had the same stain - some did but not all. Anybody know if this is normal? If it is, what's with the residue? Could this be a factory defect issue?

Thanks

It is just the residual corrosion preventative coating from shipment. It will continue for quite some time since it is utterly impossible to remove all of it. It will slow over time though.

I noticed the sealant a couple places my first wash/wax. It was not just at the bottom of doors but I think that was one place I noticed it. It was yellowish and waxy. If yours is a different color, it may be something different or may have mixed with grime or a lubricant. I just removed it and figured I might see some more. I'd rather deal with a little of this now than rust later.

Is this a guess or did you by chance get this answer from BMW? I'm just not convinced that this is an intensional design by BMW. Why would water be washing this stuff out through the door? Just doesn't seem right. Thanks for the reply.

I think we all have it. I've seen it on other members pictures, as well as other 1ers in person.

Pain in the ass, but no stopping it.

Don't use your wash-mit to remove it, or you will wreck it.

Yeh everyone has it, due to the drains meeting at that part in the door and draining out down the side-skirt, sucks but just gotta live with it!

If there was no drain in the door, then water would collect inside the door cavity. The sealant inside the door is a necessary evil. If you don't have the problem, then it means your drain is plugged which is worse,

I get streaks on both sides of my car... figured it was just road grime from where the water flows down since those are the lowest points on the car. Wipes right off when I wash it.

It actually gets better over time. I have less and less of it between washes since when I first got the car.

I've got it coming from under the roundel on the hood... both doors and a nice snail trail that shows up under the rear license plate.

I've had my car for well over a year and the stuff just keeps leaching out.

It's designed to stop just after the rust warranty expires, then you will see brown colored gunk leaking out.
