Do you worry about your cf diffuser?

I really like the look of carbon fibre diffusers, but given their cost, does anyone else worry about how vulberable they are to even a minor rear- ender?

If you worry about getting into a fender bender, then why buy anything for the car at all? Its a risk you gotta take if you want the parts you want.

The repair costs on our cars are expensive, is that going to prevent you from buying the car itself?

Well actually, I don't think you'd find a lot of people that would buy the car if it didn't come with a warranty off the lot - and that includes those of us who mod and put parts of that warranty in jeopardy.

Because a fender bender (which is far more likely to occur than a major accident) doesn't take out my tune, downpipes, coilovers etc. I'm all too familiar with the concept of "you gotta pay to play". I just find myself considering the risk-reward on the diffuser specifically and was wondering whether others have given it a second thought. So far it looks like its a non-issue.

You could always add your cosmetic mods to your insurance coverage. Might raise it up a little, but your insurance company may cover items as long as they do not interfere with the integrity of the vehicle.

Look, if you are so damn worried about it, dont do it. You have to worry about things no matter what you do to the car. If you lower the car, you have to worry about scraping. If you put rims on it, you have to worry about curbing them. If you put a lip on, you have to worry about scraping that. Simple things that happen a lot more often then a fender bender. If you're too worried to do it, don't bother.

indeed...if you are paranoid about this as mentioned add it to your insurance...this minor addition should not be too much per month and if it lets you sleep at night it's worth it..If my car gets rear ended the LEAST of my worries is the diffuser so i am not concerned..And the joy my CF bits add to my car are worth every bit of worry....LOL But i do not worry about a rear ender anyway... My garage is in a 160 year od forest and the friggin acorns are starting to fall by me so ATM my concern LOL....

i try not to let fear get in the way of enjoying something

besides, most insurance plans cover about $1k in aftermarket, which is enough for the diffuser and a few other exterior modifications

Life is a lease. Better live it until the lease expires.

I'm actually more worried about somebody flogging the diffuser or any other parts from my car. Some people are ruthless. My car is always tucked away somewhere secure though.

My bastuck quad diffuser was rear ended and ruined. That broke my heart because I got it in Germany and it would be very hard to replace. I only paid 250 eur. for it but shipping one to the states would be just as much as the part. Hopefully my new diffuser fairs better. The "fender bender" also chipped my OEM CF trunk spoiler. And the motorist was uninsured. All in all, the damage wasnt that obvious unless you REALLY look. So much in fact, Modified Mag used a pic of my baby (bad diffuser and all) in thier MFest article this month I'm actually glad its a small pic.

I think if someone without insurance causes an accident with you, you should legally be allowed to beat the shit out of them. Not to kill them or seriously injure them, just enough to make them think twice about driving uninsured again.

No... I don't worry.

I dont worry about my doors or quarter panels getting hit in a T bone either.

I paid a fair amount of money for all the parts on my car...

Seems a bit harsh though...

I was thinking we should be allowed to just cut their balls off for a first offence -- but as for the second offence...

It amazes me how little states do to protect the insured motorist. They have this bogus uninsured motorist fee, but let's face it, the drunk, uninsured guy who is driving his friend's junker, and rear ends you is going to get away scott free is he is an illegal. All they have to do is deport him.

The best thing is to always keep an eye out around you and be ready to implement an escape plan. More than once, I have had to duck onto a shoulder to avoid being rear-ended or side swiped by out of control folks.

As for a carbon fiber spoiler, as long as it is BMW, I would think it would simply be covered as a replacement part. Insurance companies know BMWs have expensive parts, and hope that you don't get into a scuffle. USAA has always replaced anything that got damaged, and I have even been able to upgrade at times. Got an aero kit bumper for my old Z3 when I needed one and was prepared to pay the difference in cost. But since I was using my own wholesale account for the most exepnsive parts, the cost ended up being less! That made everyone happy.

I think it's like what most people said already. Try and enjoy the car If its a concern, contact your insurance company, they might cover it already. If they cover only up to $1000.00 then you can get a good quality diffuser that is under $1000.00 like the iCarbon lip.

there is a lot of uninsured motorists in the US.. Nevada is 17%, Arizona is 22% uninsured and cali 25%..

good idea to have a nice low deductible on comprehensive coverage, especially if you live in Mississippi (26% uninsured). lol

those are all 2004 stats.. but 2010 im sure its worse with the economy being low n' all..

Oh yeah. saw a stat that said that over 75% of accidents in Ohio where the fault of the uninsured motorist in 2007.

"Based on the Ohio rates I think it is fair to say that the uninsured drivers are causing more than 50% of the wrecks involving the uninsured as one of the parties"

As stated before "you gotta pay to play". If your that concerned get the insurance for those parts. Note to owners I use to work in car audio. Most factory radios cost just as much as the aftermarket ones if not more, so your better off not getting this type of insurance if your just going to replace the stereo and speakers. unless your going all out and doing tv screens and full custom it's not worth it.
