Series 1 Service Manual

I’ve tried to find a service manual for my 2010 128i. The best I can get is a DVD that is difficult, complicated, ambiguous and poorly layed out. I found a hard back publication called “BMW 3 Series (E90, E91, E92, E93) Service Manual: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010” by Bentley that retails for about $140 but can be bought at Amazon for about $90. The 1 and several 3 BMW series have the same engine, an N52. The front end for the E90 is the same for the E82, the rear end is similar to an E92, and several of the automatic transmissions for both 1 and 3 series are GMC 6L45. I contacted Bentley about a future publication but they responded that there are no plans to publish a manual for the 1 series. Does anyone have any experience with this manual?

Thanks

E90 Bentley Manual covers about 90% of our cars, so yes, it is worthwhile.

That is prolly why the E90 would be better......take "TheSt|G" advise, he would know. On a different note....why is the DVD that difficult? What do you mean "complicated, ambiguous and poorly layed out".
Is this one of the on line sold items?

They explicitly list what it doesn't cover on the back. Neither their explicit list of covered nor not covered cars makes it clear whether, for me for example, a 2012 128i would be covered. They say not the new models introduced in 2011. Well, my car is the same as those 128i from before 2011. They say e82 four cylinder. Was there such a thing?

Here's the back cover in detail:

My e82 is a 4 cylinder diesel punching 156 kw (204 BHP) and over 400N. I guess that is what they might mean. However, mine is excluded as it is a 123d.

Yep, and now that I read it again, I think the 128 and 135 are "clearly" not covered, either. The reason they are not explicitly listed as uncovered is because neither are 4 cylinder. The book really is only about 4 cylinder engine-ed vehicles, and then 4 cylinder exclusions are listed....

....two countries, separated by a common language.

Hey guys, sorry to necro this but I've got this book. The diy's are mediocre, and you can find better ones on youtube. PM me if there's something you want out of there and I'll send you pictures of what the book has. Some stuff is the same like changing out brakes and some body stuff, but the engine stuff isn't going to be too relevant and it spends way too little time on the bigger things.

Got a DVD off eBay for $10. It seems to be pretty good so far. Used it while replacing my clutch. Had torques sequences and specs along with pics. It's the alldata program. Worth my $10 already.

Even though the seller specifies 2009-2010, I'll bet it covers a majority of the later cars...

Seems worth it for ten bucks... Who knows if Haynes, Bentley, or Chilton will ever release a manual for the E82/E87.

That's exactly what I thought. When I got it, it was a burnt cd with sharpie writing on it. I said, well there goes $10. Haha. I installed it despite the sellers name and the backwoods cd. Haha. After I installed it I looked at a couple things I've already taken apart on my car to see if it was going to lie to me. Everything looked the same. Works good. I'm pretty glad I tried it out and didn't end up with a virus or my identity stolen. Hahaha.

@bmw1racer posted the link. I just had my buddy who has a 2011 check the program. I left it at his house after the clutch install. He said he chose his year and model and it does list stuff for the N55 so for $10 you can't really go wrong. Even if it's not dead on specific it's in the same ballpark for everything else but the engine. But from what in being told it does have the later years.

I like the eBay's seller's alias name "facelikeabutt" ;-)
Ebay reputation score isn't that high either...

Yeah, I noticed that as well, but as mentioned before, it's only $10...

And the seller does offer a 14-day refund... Sending back the DVD to the seller would cost about a buck or so.

Is this just a copy of the BMW TIS software? It sounds like it.

This is an online copy of the BMW TIS: http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/

However, this doesn't have any info for N55 or later cars. You're saying the DVD you purchased does?
