Post From 2012 Detroit NAIAS: Final BMW 1M US Production Figure = 740 Units

BIMMERPOST NEWS
From 2012 Detroit NAIAS: Final US 1M Production Figure = 740

COMMENTS

We have finally been able to obtain a final US 1M production figure for all those curious. The final count for US 1Ms was 740 units, per BMWNA M Manager, Matt Russell.

The very first one imported was the Valencia Orange 1M Pace Car which debuted at the Rolex 24 hour race at Daytona.

We received some insight at the Detroit NAIAS as to the reason the 1M production run wasn't extended into the 2012 model year. It was not due to any issues related to engine/emissions certification, but simply because BMW could not get enough MY2012 production to justify homologation. This had the added benefit of preserving the exclusivity and value of the 2011 1M models. Bet our 1M owners are happy about that

Sweet. Value just jumped on these, I bet. Under 1k means each color is pretty damn rare in its own right

FYI, if you're planning on competing in SCCA Solo2 autocross Stock class, these numbers make the car ineligible (must be >1,000 units per year sold in North America, 910 was the NA number from the other thread)

+1. This may be contrary to the rumors of prolongation of the 1M production for the rest of the World until June 2012 as well. I still believe that the end of global production will be around February/March after completing just 1 year of production in Leipzig.

I am not sure I understand the context there, what exactly does that mean?

There wasn't enough production slots available for BMWNA to justify another model year. End of story!!! There's nothing else to understand.

People will be confused. They'll think you have an old 7 series...

Agree. That term is typically used for purposes of qualifying a production car for purposes of a race series. Not sure it really makes sense in this context.
