2 Series Better Than 1 Series?
In pure performance terms, sure. But is it a better car? I'm not thrilled with the looks. It's kind of plain where the 1 is unique, even quirky. And it's bigger. That's the main reason I couldn't pull the trigger on a 3. To me, the 1 is the perfect size. I do not feel the need to trade my 1 in for a new 2. The 1 is perfect to me.
What does everyone else think? Does the 2 appeal to you? |

I'm betting it will be an across the board improvement. It looks so mean. I think my favorite design bmw has made since the e46. The only thing I am feeling might take some adjusting to get used to is electric steering, but i'm not going to lose sleep over it. People always freak out over change. I am betting in person that the car will just be breathtaking.

I think it will be better. Really reminds me of the E46 M3 I had. I like the interior, front end, and sides better than my 135. So glad it doesn't have the droopy line on the sides. Performance will almost certainly be better, and quite a few performance options available from BMW. Have to wait to see how the steering turns out. That said, I really like my 135, maybe more than the E46 M3 I had.

Too soon to know. For me, negatives of the 2 include electric steering (but might be OK), auto "stop/start" (but can disable) and slightly larger size.
I will reserve opinion until one is able to drive a 2, then decide.

It will drive like the 1 Series hatch which it is based on of course. People act here like the 2 Series is a whole new car, something on a new platform or whatever. It would be nice of some of those members read a few tests of the 1er to get a idea of how it will drive. The M135i is pretty much praised among European journalists and owners. Great DD, great MPG, though I've read several texts how the Variable Steering system is a bit weird and requires some getting used to.
No one has driven it yet, count that in too. |

Don't know much about the 2. Could you elaborate on that?

They are pretty much the same thing...
Added a bit more power, but didn't make the engine any stronger to take more boost... So you could really do the same thing to a 1 series with a tune. Revised the suspension a bit, but didn't change it so much that when modified, will make it perform any better than a one series. LSD option is a pro, but will probably cost as much as to add to a one series. Made it lighter. Big pro here... Ruined the steering. Big con here... I think its down right ugly, so i'll keep my 1 series.

Yeah, just read that it's the N55 but tuned to 320 horses. So a 1er with a tune that comes standard.

More like a 135is. And again, the engine just starts off with more power... Its not any stronger so in the end after a real tune, they'll be the same.

for most of us here the power doesn't matter, but most people don't modify their cars

no thanks, not a fan of the looks and the performance increase is just not there
and electric steering, big no thanks just not interested, maybe I'll put a E46 M3 in the garage while there's still unmodified ones floating around

Eh, it'll be better for many, but probably not for many of us.

Not so sure about that. Many of us on the forum are enthusiasts who like to modify cars. Much more so than the general public. It appears to me that there are a lot of 135i owners on this forum with tunes too.

There are things about it I like, and things I don't. Unfortunately the things I don't like (ie; EPS) make it much less desirable. I do like the overall appearance and interior, though.
With that being said. Nah, its not better than a 1 series. Long live the E8x's! |
