I drove one about 3 weeks ago. I posted a review in the 2 series board. You might as well buy the 335i and get the extra doors because that's basically what it is, a 2 door 3 series. It felt numb and disconnected to me. It might be perfect for some and I may upgrade to the m235i in a couple years but I doubt it. Until they fix the electric power steering and disable the auto start stop crap I won't buy. I will say I like the looks, aggressive and mean, but not unique or having of character. That's why I bought the 1er.

The Auto Stop/Start can be coded out. I know a coding guy in your area(Graf) that can do it. Send me a PM if your interested. I feel the steering in the new 3er/4er is Meh also. Its certainly better in Sport mode(s) but its not like it feels in our cars or even the e9x. Also the brake pedal feels too light for my tastes. Dack

My disappointment put aside, the M2 excites me because it is a continuation of a modern classic, the 1M. I have virtually no interest in the 228 or 235....i'd much rather have a 128 or 135. Last edited by IEDEI; 12-12-2013 at 09:22 AM.. |

I like how it looks, but as the new models continue to roll out I just get more depressed. Every new model bmw releases it seems they take a step further away from that "pure" driving experience they have been praised for the last 30years. I'm sure performance will be great, but after I'm done with the 135i I'll go get an E90/E92 M3.

The only thing I'm worried about is the already mentioned EPS(I had a F30 335i for a few months), the rest looks and sounds alright, though a M235i would be a nice (more or less) successor to my 1M , it just isn't
M2 it is eventually... Cheers Robin |

I'd do it sooner rather than later. They may pull the plug early like they did the 1M.

i was told the exact same thing!! Basically the electrical system and the suspension have been altered along with the wheelbase length....otherwise it's the same car with a new, less interesting skin.

Sorry, but I cannot find one ugly thing , whatsoever about the 2. I think it is the most beautiful design since the e46. And the interior is just insane. Ive also heard from an f30 driver that the EPS isnt really that bad.

^ the 228i I drove was deep sea blue I think, it was a good looking car. If it felt more like the 1er I would have ordered one. My 128i just made me happy we're the 228i made me feel nothing.

you definitely made the right choice. they may say 'pre-production', etc....but honestly these cars are in production NOW.....there's no time to change stuff. The way your review sounded is likely what's coming.

And remember if you don't get the 235i or M235i you get stuck with a 180hp turbo 4 cylinder. That was also a huge deal breaker for me. I feel the inline 6 is mandatory. But that's just me. The 228i I drove had the turbo 4 cylinder and it sounded like well every other turbo 4 cylinder and just felt numb. Good torque but just uneventful.

Personally, I don't care for the front interior wheel and dash. Too busy and glitzy for my taste. For all the hits the 1er take for it's interior I prefer it. Except for the visors of course.

For me one of the biggest issue are the lack of color choices. I've never been a fan of metallic and now there are only two choices available. I'll stick with my Crimson Red for a long time.

I bought my ideal car back in 2008 and it's sweet, sport package, upgraded audio and all for the same price as the base 228i even when it's camping: I just hate how in order to own a nice two door bmw you have to dress it in carbon and put added BS on it so it doesn't look like an X5/accord gran coupe bastard child. A good ole E30 325i looked fine, if you wanted to go fast you bought a 325is. Now in order to own a decent looking 2 door bmw you have to spend $45K? I'll stick with my 1, thanks...

The guys from BMW AG told me that the 135i has the hardest, heaviest feeling of any BMW built. They did this to hark back to the 2002 "feeling". And they told me some customer's complained... so thats why they gave the new 4er a softer steering feel. I don't like that. German cars SHOULD feel different than other cars. And steering and brake feel is a major part of what the driver feels. Dack
