BOV or no BOV

There's a huge controversy over whether or not to get a BOV. Many people say that its very unnecessary unless your running very high boost. If this is the case, what are the downsides in getting one. I personally am interested in purchasing a charge pipe + BOV kit but wanted to see what other people had to say about the whole idea first. Please don't just state your opinion on whether they are good or not. I want to know the upsides and downsides of having one.
Thanks a lot, your help is appreciated

there is a very recent post with all sorts of information about this and seems benefits / downfall are dependent on what mods etc you are running

I just ordered the Synapse BOV and ER charge pipe from Mike @ N54tuning. Other mods are JB4; AR Catless Downpipes; BMS drop in. I am of the mind that this will take more backpressure off of the turbos and reduce the boost spike between shifts and when letting off the throttle at high rpms a lot faster and better than the OE DV's. Any stress I can take off the turbos is a good thing IMO. Again, this is just my opinion. I will of course data log things just to make myself feel better.

I have AA all around including BOV, It sounds amazing and i don't understand the fuss about people hating on it. I feel it does what it is needed to do and with any of our cars being able to push well over 375whp... Why Not?

Agreed on the AA BOV, I ran one on my 135 and loved it!

They don't do anything the stock one doesn't, unless you're running high enough boost to cause the stock one to leak. Otherwise it's just a shiny noise maker. I have no idea what boost level causes the stock to one leak though. Depends on how stiff the spring is. That's why you can adjust the stiffness of many aftermarket ones.

There are a few advantages to an upgraded charge pipe and BOV/Forge Diverters.

1) 14+ PSI and sometimes the stock DVs leake

2) 14+ PSI the stock charge pipe sometimes blows off, either at the throttle body or the elbow.

At stock boost there is no performance benefit.
