Guys, you need to be realistic about this car. This will be a M-class car at an entry level price. This will not be better than the M3. It's the same ignorant people who say that their 1er is just as good as an M3 with a tune and some suspension work. That makes me laugh still. The 1 body is still not designed to be as aerodynamic as the M3. So no modding is going to help that.

Look at the history of M cars. They have never disappointed and have always been admired and loved by car enthusiasts and pro drivers. So, why do so many people think this car is going to bomb? It's the same thing Porsche did with the Cayman. Arguable the best 2 seater for the money, but it will never come close to the performance and prestige of the 911. And I doubt it's cut into the 911 sales. (I don't want to see any jackasses put up times for both cars and say, "Oh, the Cayman matched it at X course when it was a full moon")

I believe this car will up the ante for performance in a smaller, lighter package that will be priced below the M3 and C63, RS4, etc. Who gives a shit if it has 340 or 350hp?! Horsepower is not king on an autocross track. It's all about the balance, handling, and chassis.

Well I bought a Cayman S instead of a 911 and was looking to get an M3 as a street car but I might get the 1M instead if I can hold out.

Calling X5 M and X6 M "disappointment" would be an understatement.

Besides, the sales are completely flat for these two M cars as well so "failure" is not out of the question either.

I enjoyed it for what it was.
The suicide smiley makes your comment childish and what you are stating i have seen and done (camera holding) before.

My opinion is based on what I saw on the vid. To ME, he drove completely opposite to the BMW drivers on the other vids. Obviously the guy wasn't a pro and really didn't know the track that well. Neither am I, but at least I don't catapult over the bumps like "That Guy" did.

It was still a good vid.......

Initially this video wasn't recorded to make it public.

It shows Guenter Schillinger - you may know him from "BMW M3 GTS Testdrive" - when he drove a BMW 1 Series M Coupé the very first time. Someone of the film crew spontaneously joined Guenter, when he went to start his first ride – afterwards we recorded "BMW 1 Series M Coupé. Step1".

You will smile, too!

Ah, you missed my italics on the word "cars"! I agree that the X5 and X6 M's were not a good idea. Lets stick to the cars.

car sounded like my n54 without a DCI. And as far as the driver was concerned? i was cringing on how ROUGH he was treating the car. His lines weren't that good, and he was very rough with his inputs. Need smoother better drivers lol.

As pointed out above, I think Guenter Schillinger may know a thing or two about driving. If the 1M is putting a smile on his face, then it should turn out to be a proper M car.

Hell, I could even hear the tranny "whine" in some clips of the video... you know that whine we have when we rev up high and let off (not the turbo whine).

Is this a bs video or what?
I don't see this being an M3, and if it is, it has an N54/5 in it?!

I really like this car so long as it delivers great performance at a good value (can't really afford an M3). I'm sure it won't beat an M3, but if I can get a 1M with LSD, better suspension, more power (hopefully an upgraded turbo or something more than ECU reprogram), wide body, etc. I think this car will work great for someone who likes small high performance cars.

Just like you said the caymen is a great car I could buy, but I know I would get the 911 if I had the extra cash laying around.

Same case here I'll take an 1M because it has all the upgrades I want on the 1er and I can still afford it. As soon as I can afford an M3, I'll buy one of those (too )

Are you kidding me?

Out of every 10 X5/X6 that I see on the road, 3 are M's. There is a lot of demand for these cars.

I wouldn't be so sure to judge these big heavy SUV's before driving one. They are very good for what they are. Sure, they may not be what we're used to M cars being, but IMO, BMW saw an opportunity to extend their M model range, and took it and has become very successful in doing so by demolishing the competitors, namely ML63, current Cayenne Turbo S, etc

Back on topic.....

In this vid the 1-M sounds like a 135i but I'm sure due to it's M tuning it will out handle the 135i by a long shot. I doubt it will get any more power than the Z4 35iS so around 335hp at most.
