Special Order Paint on BMWs

Does anyone have accurate, specific information regarding special ordering a paint option for a BMW?

I spoke with my dealer about this several years ago. At that time, he said that you could special order any color of paint, so long as that color was offered on something made in the same factory as the car you wanted, i.e., the paint was on hand in the factory where your car was being built.

He quoted me a price of @ $1,500 for it.

Just curious what anyone knows about this beyond conjecture. Seems like everyone you talk to has different information regarding this mysterious order option...

Thanks!

I know you were looking for a definitive answer, but when I was looking into ordering my E46 they said they could do any color currently being made. I would call your local dealer and ask to speak with whoever is in charge of BMW Individual (special ordering). $0.02

I was quoted $1000 a few years ago when I was looking. I'm curious now too as I'm unimpressed with the standard color selections.

There used to be a site that had a catalog of all of BMW colors, including many with images of either paint chips or vehicles that were that color, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Anyone have a link to a similar site?

I don't think there is a 1er individual program catalog created yet, but this catalog is here. It contains all the paint colors available, and is pretty comprehensive.

So you'd rather pay ~$7500 for a decent aftermarket paint job than special order BMW Individual for $1500-$2500? I can't see the logic there.

A long time ago Road & Track showed off an AMG with that hot Urrapeen monochromatic paint job (where even all the chrome was body color (that's why it was called mono'chrome'atic - hahahahaha ; -)). One wag wrote in and said, "Monochromatic paint? Ha, I can spot an Earl Scheib paint job a mile away!!" ; -)

Ah yes, Earl Scheib, another fine automotive franchise. Are they still around, Hugo?

Thanks to all who threw in their 2 cents on this one, and that PDF catalog is very cool and useful. Thanks.

I am generally unimpressed with most BMW colors, offered on most models, most of the time. I don't think they get "color" in the way Alfa, Maserati, or Ferrari do, to name 3 companies:wink:

A lot of their colors are close to where you want them, but then miss the mark in the end.

Having said that, Imola red is one of my all time favorites of any car company...I am a sucker for a proper, deep, blue based red.

Anyway, I'd love to see someone custom order a 1er in Imola. Or do a photoshop of one, for that matter!

Hint, hint.....

I would love to get the 1 in Interlogos Blue if it was only an extra $1000 over Montego. But I think that is an M only color no matter what.

^ lol, I hope that is a joke...

I dont mean to flame, but there's nothing like OEM paint. A 4 year old car does not need to be repainted a different color and as hard as they try, they'll never completly cover the other color. You'll still find it everywhere unless they completely dis-assemble the car, then your looking at a TON of $$$...

------------------

Wow, if this is possible, it will be so hard for me to choose between Imola Red and that beautiful deep blue metallic that I believe is an "M" color. Imola Red with coral would be toooo much though, it'd have to be black interior, it would be just like my ZHP. But that blue would be super hot with Coral Interior. Superman car FTW!

If BMW applies the same policy as for the 3 series, you won't be able to get any other colors than what is available on the configurator.

Nobody was able to special-order paint on any E9x generation cars, yet. :iono:

Ouch, that sucks about no E9x custom colors. I know I had the option on an E36 in '98. Fortunately the 1 comes in my favorite color, Montego Blue.

+1 This also applies to the 5,6. I have had people try to order IMOLA Red 550 and 650. No go........BMW is leaving $$$ on the table.

New info?

Did anyone find out for sure whether or not non-standard BMW paint choices are available on the 1er?

I dealt with a sales guy who got custom a custom color for a friend with her E46 M3 a few years ago. He checked into it and said they are not allowing custom colors on US 1-series cars. I really wanted Mystic Blue.
