Nice video, that Z4M has good manners on turns but seems like not as strong as the 1M on straights.

Mark how did the AutoX go over? I never heard anyone talking about it and didn't venture to the back paddock to see it.

Yes.. he was on R tires .... so he gained on me in the twisty sections. I was on Hankook RS-3s .... I was able to pull away and maintain the gap down the straights..

That's great news. Thanks! I'm so frustrated I couldn't make this event - not even to spectate. Looking forward to the next one!! I need to get out and meet more people. I did get my BMW CCA membership moved to the Lone Star Chapter, so that's progress.

Foley and his co driver got TTOD and second place in the prepared Evo. Ken led the BMW times in third overall. I managed fourth overall in my Elise. The course was in the low 30 second range and was designed by frequent SCCA Nationals course designer Roger Johnson. Luckily the lot dried out quickly after the Sunday morning downpour. We got 7 runs. We had about a 20% no show rate, probably due to the weather. Fun event, but we are still waiting on the official results.

I was a no show due to rain... along with CDI duties of course. And the last time I saw a 29 second course in the 1M. (ofest 2012) .. I didn't do very well.

M6 Gran Coupe Ride

Here's my video from the M6 Gran Coupe exerience at COTA. The drivers were the Spartanburg Performance Center instructors. Unfortunately, the exerience lasted less than 2 laps. Our laptimes were in the low 2:40s which is impressive considering the car was loaded with 4 adults.

I got to ride in the M5. Pretty sweet too...I was impressed with how well it was taking the corners on street tires. The guy driving ended up drifting all the way around T13.

And the size of those brakes... Did you guys see the model they had in their garage? HUGE!!! The rotor was almost 3/4 of my arm.

We actually asked them to tone it down a little because we didn't want the COTA folks to be upset.. ...sometimes they tend to drift entire sections of the track..

Personally I thought it was completely ridiculous how those guys were driving on track.

Mark,

If I read the rules literally, "Instructor supervision is required at all times while you are on the track.", it appears that even advanced students will have intructors riding with them during all sessions.

Is this right?

Also, how large are the run groups going to be?

Should be another great event! Glad BMW NA is helping out by renting the track for the week because COTA really increased the track rates this year. For those who haven't made it to COTA you should really try to make it to this event. It's a fabulous facility and there are very few opportunities to drive the track.
