My bad, I should've been clearer. Can the Canadian KM only cluster just be changed on the stalk to read miles without dealer programming?

Thanks

I believe the cluster has to be changed per U.S. law. Ask champignon he just went through the process.

Would certainly expect so. 100% sure the Canadian car/dial can be coded to fully behave like USA cluster (per vehicle option "VO" list: that means the dealer will not erase/overwrite it).

To sweeten the deal: if you send me your KM dial, I'll send you my US version.

I didn't mean coding just select imperial miles using the stalk options. Where are located?

On US (NA?) no-nav cars, you got 2 options (@MightyMouseTech can you pls confirm both these are available on a NA-CAN car?):
1. Press the menu button on the radio and then press the config button. (it switches the units to metric both on the radio and on digital screen between dials). It's around the same menu where you would switch radio display language (Eng-Fra switching is possible in CAN, I would assume)
2. Via stalk: see page 59 and 60 of the NA manual.

I have NAV, but will check when I can.

Although, our speedo's will only be km/hr only.

Now were getting somewhere!!!!!!

Yes!!!

Can someone confirm. I want to know because there is the possibility that changing the speedo is no longer required BUT having a KM odometer in the USA is a liability. One little mistake at a dealer misreading the miles and entering in the BMW computer can wreak Havoc as Champignon says. It will be put in BMWs computer, then Carfax will get it, then the next time you record a lower mileage entry, it will raise red flags. So if you can keep the Canadian cluster with KM speedo but change the ODO to miles, you are golden in my humble opinion.

That's not a problem, makes the car seem faster! : )

But the ODO is a bigger concern since everything is computerized nowadays. One mistake can lead to a lot of problems.

Follow-up: Speedo change is not required if the car is from Canada and conforms to all other Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and US EPA standards. It was required until a 2012 NHSTA document supersceded it BUT almost everyone is still operating under that assumption. I read it myself online and spoke to NHSTA today and the confirmed that as of 2012 speed and headlights are forgiven from Canada as long as everything else is conforming.

Yup guys. ODO was not a problem for US resident personal import. It only becomes an issue if shipping the car. Mine got tough because my deal was from a dealer not private party like Blotto. Also shipping across the border can get a little weird because customs can treat it like a business transaction instead of personal informal import where KM speedo is forgiven.

Blotto, should request the letter of compliance from BMW, once you have that in hand, it's all downhill from there. Also remember when agree on price to add about 2% to the exchange rate since banks take a cut. If anyone has any questions let me know, I would be happy to help.

Also, I'm not sure about blotto's car but my canadian stripper has heated seats, bluetooth on it. I think it might be standard which was extra money in the US.

Finally, Canada is beautiful, Toronto traffic can get a little bad, but once outside the city, the views are stunning. Good luck to anyone out there interested.

Any prospective buyers should jump on this. Current CAD/USD exchange rate is .755 which translates to 39,260 USD. This is probably the lowest USD priced 1M in North America.
