My winter tires

Just got these from TireRack. I was going to buy the Blizzaks but the guy told me about the Dunlop Winter Sport M3s. Rated better than Blizzak in all catagories. The wheels are $88 cheapies but they look ok I think. Mounted, balanced, shipped etc. about $1000.

Are your wheels/tires staggered?
What size tire/wheel did you buy?

The tires are 225/45HR17 Dunlop Winter Sport M3 RunFlat $157 each. The wheels are 17X7.5 Sport Edition F6 Silver Painted $88 each. A friend swears by Blizzak; TireRack also sells them but the ratings for Dunlop/Blizzak are as follows: Dry Traction 8.3/8.1 Wet Traction 8.6/8.3 Hydro Resistance 8.7/8.3 Snow Traction 9.2/8.9 Cornering Stability 8.0/7.7 Steering Response 8.1/7.8 Ride Comfort 8.5/8.1. The rating system is Superior - (8.6 - 10) Excellent - (6.6 - 8.5) Good - (4.6 - 6.5). As far as the size goes, one of these posts has a tire calculator and these 17s are very close in size (diameter/width) to the 18s that came with the sport package. I read somewhere that for winter its good to get taller profile / next smaller rim size to get through the snow better. I should be all set. Bring on the snow ! ! !

thanks for the info. I am almost convinced! Do you have them on the car yet? Who did you work with at Tire rack (prefer to have a reference)? Do you know the mileage they should last?

Thanks again.

PS- great wheels.....especially for 88.00

I phoned in my order because the web site only showed air freight for some reason - $250! So i called the number and the guy said there must be something screwed up - he shipped ups. I ordered Monday and got them Wednesday. If you call ask for Cy - he's a good guy. Ph (888) 541-1777 his extension 622. (maybe he'll give a volume discount .. ok, doubt it)

I don't know the mileage expected - not really my main concern. Also, the BMW center roundel thing won't fit but I really don't want to put the BMW badge on a wheel if its not BMW.

Thanks for the info!! After reading this post I just ordered these exact tire/rim combo from Tirerack. The $88 rims were my least favorite, but good enough for me for winter driving.

I have Dunlop M3s on my E46 and have been super happy with them. I must have about 20k miles on them and they still have plenty of tread. Great tires.

The wheels look better in your photos than they do on the TireRack website. I think I wouldn't mind getting the same ones after all.

But you aren't putting them on right away, are you? It's not even October yet!

I was wondering about air pressure monitor for the run-flat tires. I know all run-flats have monitors, but I did not know if they are vehicle specific. It is my understanding that you just switch your wheels and then reinitialize the monitor. Is that correct?

Just went on Tirerack.com and they didn't have the winter packages on for the E90 anymore. I called them and they said that they no longer sell this wheel in a 17 inch.
so I got the ASA JH3. I guess I was a day late to get those fox 3 wheels....

That's weird...I just got off the phone with them this morning and they confirmed my purchase of the 17in winter package for my new e90.

I just checked tirerack.com and I still see them. I looked up a 2006 330i sedan with the sports package and found the 17" winter package on their website. Great reviews of the tires BTW!

you're right, the packages are up again but the wheel (fox6 or f6 ) is no longer available. they have the E1 and E2 but they are not in stock. the E1 won't be availble until end of november.

Apparently, the E1 replaces the Fox 6. it's very similar in design.
