My kids bought me a Griot's towel for Christmas eight years ago. I still use it today.
I've picked up a few Meguiar's waffle-weave microfibers, and they are OK, but I think it's time to get another Griot's or two. I used to be a cotton-towel guy, but after trying good waffle-weave towels, I've never gone back. And, +1 on no fabric softener. Also, using some white vinegar in place of the fabric softener seems to perk older towels up a bit. I've heard this from others, and it does seem to help a bit. I also like to use a liquid, non-scented detergent. Anyone try a dedicated microfiber detergent with good results? |

I use the BMW deerhide chamoix to pick up the standing water. Just get it damp slap it on the hood or roof then grab the 2 corners and drag towards you. Then I follow with some quick detailer spray and about 4-6 microfiber towels. I also use a air hose with trigger nozzle to push out the water from the seams and vents n such. Great for the engine bay also. I find that theres a give and take between absorption and softness. I love cotton towels for my older cars since i can use only one or 2 to get the job done. But I noticed cotton towels tend to leave more swirls after a while vs microfiber. I go through lots but hardly ever have buff out swirls.

Quality Microfibre towelling (even the meguiars gold class brand) is superior to cotton towelling. I used cotton terry towels 10 years ago...switched to MF and never looked back.

I have to say, I agree with most of the guys on here. MF towels don't suck, but even "pre-washed, lint-free" should be washed once before use. No fabric softener for sure, and then, use the right towel for the right job. Go with a couple of big waffle-weaves to blot the car dry, use the MF for wax removal, QD, or whatever else.
