This CNET review on 1M is a joke
Did this joker actually drive the car "properly"?

The radio display is a poor interface for music or the phone system." Since when is radio interface for music or phone system a car "handling" equipment. If he wants to play with iDrive, he should have stayed home and played with the iPad. |

He is not a driver just a tech geek, so he doesn't get the point of the car.
I don't think he drove the car at all, I think he just sat in it to fiddle with the iDrive. I don't understand why CNET does automotive reviews at all. |

"The M model gets some different suspension work and a variable slip differential." I bet you he did not know it's M3 competition chassis and suspension. He probably does not even know what the slip-diff is for lol. |

CNET does automotive reviews just to review new technology so it isn't a surprise he didn't bring up anything else about the car. It is a specialty review for those who want the latest and greatest available for cars which the 1M isn't.

Honestly, CNET is not good for ANY reviews. period.
There was a time in the 90's when they actually did decent gadget reviews, but now it's just an endless litany of BS. Serious techies stopped paying attention to CNET about 10 years ago. I'm not even going to dignify their auto reviews with a profanity.

If you look at the video he wasn't even reviewing the car with the iDrive with the BMW Apps. This car is not even fully loaded with its potential tech.

That's great news for those of us who really want one and don't have an allocation yet, keeps the ones who don't really know about the car's main point away.

This review is so stupid it's almost funny, I mean honestly if this guy is an 'automotive journalist' then I think I should apply for his job!
for example: "Through turn after turn, the traction control stepped heavily on the car. We had dutifully pushed the M button before tackling this road, and began looking everywhere around the cabin for some way of suspending traction control. And before being forced to look at the manual, we spotted it: a button with a traction control symbol next to the word off, at the top of the dashboard." Hum... let me see ... forced to look at the manual to spot a button with a traction control next to the word off, at the top of the dashboard Really? You have to look at the manual to find a button on top of the dashboard?? Then he goes and complain that pressing that button puts it in MDM mode and does not completely turn traction control off ... Hmmm maybe IF you had read that manual you may have wanted to keep on reading about the part that tells you it's a two level system and how to completely turn traction control off. Good job as a journalist reviewing a car not to look at the documentation and then complaining about not being able to turn traction control off in your review... Then essentially in his review he keeps going about it being like a 135 with some extra stuff... then says it's actually not that much more expensive than the 135, and finally when he managed to find the traction control button he goes (assumedly very well hidden out of view on top of the dashboard) on how great fun it is to drive and ends up saying "In fact, M Dynamic Mode did seem worth the extra price of this car". What a joke!!! Then again if you're going to CNET for your car review, we probably don't want you to buy this car, we need them for ourselves, thank you very much! the review is a joke! The person reviewing this article seems totally clueless. You would think that they would do their research before doing a write up on a car. They didn't mention anything about the over boost. He seems to know nothing about the car, especially when he says the N54 motor is the same as in the 135i (what year?). To top it all off, he starts with the traction control, has no idea how to use it or what it does, complaining that it stopping them from taking turns. Ummm, have you driven ANY BMW? Their traction control system is very sensitive taking any turns at higher than normal speeds. BMW M3 included in this mix. I think this author is either upset that his lotus exige or cayman S got beat in a straight line in the top gear review; or he couldn't get an allocation himself. lol
Such an ignorant review |
