Rubs only on one side!!! Breyton GTS-r 225/40/18 and 255/35/18

I got the Breyton GTS-R wheels and bought some Sunlop Direzza star specs... 225/40/18 front, and 255/35/18 rear. I have a weird problem. The rear right tire rubs on dips.
The problem is taht ONLY the right rear tire rubs... and the rear left does not. What can be causing this? Is this normal? Or did I get a 2011 135i copue that is not well built? Any suggestions?

I am confuseed

When running an overly aggressive setup in the rear, everyone rubs much more on the right/passenger side. I have no idea why cars are designed this way but if you look close you'll see that you have more clearance on the left side. Funny enough my Porsche rubbed in the same place too.

Thanks Eyeman. I guess knowing that it happens to others makes you feel better (shouldn't be this way... but it is...). I appreciate your input.... The rubbing is very mild... so i think a fender roll would take care of it.

Yep, I had my fenders rolled. Star specs run pretty wide. If the rubbing still bothers you another brand tire might work better, or of course you could just go down to 245/35s.

Could be you have less neg camber on that side. Is it rubbing on the fender or the fender liner? I had some rubbing on both rears after lowering with my toyo 255 r888. But it was just the black felt liner and not the fender.

I measured my height a couple days ago for a pre-suspension measurement. My right side is 3/16 lower than my left. I have a 128i non-sport, so your right to left clearance difference prob don't match mine, but this is not just you

I've had this problem and will ask the dealer to check out the suspension for me. The alignement looks ok, but I should really measure.

As for the fuel tank - good point and you can check if the rubbing goes away with a low tank.

I assume the fuel tank fairly centered even though you fill it on that side. Just looking at it there seems to be some significant design asymmetry to me.

IT certainly could potentialy be because of that. However I took delivery of my car last thursday and I would guess they deliver it after checking everything and making sure camber is adjusted to factory specs on all wheels. So in this case I don't think that's the reason, however I will have it checked just to make sure. Thanks PK...

I have the same problem as you - rub on the right hand rear side only.

I have max negative camber and have rolled the gaurds/fenders. I am breyton gts-r's as well. I was running 255/35/18 on the rear and recently went back to 245/40/18 (stock size) - and it still rubbed.

I have raised the ride height for now to get rid of the problem, however I had a realy good look at both sides of the car and I think there is a manufacturing difference on the inside of the rear guards where the metal meets the plastic bumper. This is where it appears to rub. the right hand side seems to have a different profile.

I think the only solution is to cut away a bit of the metal and plastic bumper on the inside of the right rear wheel well - or raise the height of the vehicle.

I have been really supprised and frustrated by this issue - because I see on this forum other cars that appear to be running lower ride heights and more aggressive offsets with out rub issues - it has left me scratching my head. Perhaps there is just a batch of cars with a manufacturing variance.

Has anybody else go comments ?

I doubt there's much variance between cars. The variance is probably mainly model of tire related. Tires just are not measured the same. Put some Falkens or Toyos on your car in either size that you mentioned and I bet your rubbing will be gone.

But going back to the right vs left side thing, it is funny how much difference there is on the two sides. I'd bet I can run a 10mm wider tire on my drivers side than my passenger side.
