But I think the oil approach in this thread is a bit unreasonable. It would take A LOT of oil to mess the MAF up. From the box, it's good to go. Just be sensible when re-oiling down the road.

I've re-oiled mine a few times now with zero issues.
What's the advantage? Why go through the hassle/risk?

Also, how's the driving with the most recent control surface mod?

I ran the stock filter for about 6 months before switching to K&N. There's absolutely no difference in performance, just the benefit of reusability. I live in a dust bowl of sand and salt, which causes me to go through filters more regularly. About every 6-12 months actually- I blame the scoops. Really don't have a say in buying one over the other, I just don't think they're prone to destroying the MAF as I've read.

I like that... "control surface mod."
It's amazing how much more enjoyable a car feels when upgrading the most important touch point. You must be in heaven with the V1. Everything is getting the leatherique treatment next weekend too.

Honestly, the V1 is worse for that. Alcantara I'm neutral on, but the top of the wheel where the screen is is as stiff as a board. I just bought it for coolant/oil temps.

Oh, and the shift lights decided to pack up and bail on me the other day. No idea whats going on there other than a failure in the control unit(which apparently happesn quite a bit in the V2).

Correct. I have a friend with a e36 and he is coming up on 190k. He has used an oiled intake filter for over 100k no negative results. Just dont over oil.

Yup, both the intake and exhaust are utterly worthless in terms of real world HP.

DISA, Headers, and tune make the power, in that order for best to worst dollars/hp.

hmmn, i got the pe on my car & i love it
so the bigger air inlets for the performance intake & the extra inlet near the windshield don't make much of a difference crap bmw should lower the price of these..

Thanks..

Same could be said of the CF strut bar and the rest of it if we are talking about dollars vs function.

I feel for you, electrical gremlins are my greatest weakness. Sure is pretty though.

And brakes. Not my smartest purchase, that's for sure.

Those would probably be the range topper.

Slotted rotors, stainless lines, and better pads would be cheaper and more efficient.

But, but, they're gold, say "Performance" and have many, many pistons!

Original BMW stuff. You can't go wrong there. I'm sure they did their research. Solid mod. I love it.

If they researched they would have found that the 6 pot/135i/performance brakes destroy their pistons under harsh tracking condition when they get hot. Doesn't seem very performance oriented IMO but they do look very very pretty.

Most of the heating issues were curbed significantly with better ducting, backing plates, pads, fluids, and the performance rotors you receive with the performance version brakes. If the precedent for good brakes on a street car is repeated track laps and heat dissipation, then all stock BMW brakes fall short. Most members who suffered from melted pistons were absolute track junkies with the expectation that these were a BBK from the factory (because Brembo!). We know where that logic got them. But I still agree, they're not very 'performance oriented'.

Anyway, I don't track my car so I could care less, but they look good and work great for the street.

Other stock BMW brakes don't fail calipers on the track though, they just overheat and at worst warp rotors, which is a much cheaper repair/easier to prevent.
