OEM Bi-Xenon Retrofit Angel eyes not working.

Hey guys,

i had been researching for months on how to perform this retrofit properly and finally last weekend i installed the new xenon headlights.

Firstly a massive thanks to Satelite's original thread http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=526378 - this helped me out the most.

I coded the car myself and everything is working properly - xenon's aren't flickering, i tapped the wire for the high beam shutter and coded the halogen high beams for "flashing"; it all works fine.

Except for one one thing, the Angel eyes don't work...
i coded the car to enable daytime running lights, double and triple checked this but they dont come on even in the parking light or low beam positions.

I noticed one thing though, people across this forum and e90post have said the power to angel eyes comes through pin #1, but on the headlights themselves there isn't a pin #1...? ive looked in the headlight housing but can't seem to locate the bulb or slot for the bulb that runs the angel eyes, i can see the fibre optic tubing that illuminates them but no bulb. Are there a version of bixenons that dont come with angel eyes? (i mean i can see the rings, they are there and obvious as anything)

I should mention the headlights i got were out of a 2008 e82 coupe and i have a 2010 e87 hatchback

BMW say the bulb is a H8 12V halogen bulb and i bought one of them but can't find where it should go...though there is this empty socket in the bottom corner of the headlight where it looks like something could go. I've added some pics of the headlights

Any ideas guys on where the angel eye bulb is located? Sorry i know this a mouthful but any help/advice would be infinitely appreciated

Ok perhaps my first post is scaring people.

If i may rephrase?

Does any one know what wiring changes would need to be made to enable the angel eyes?

Anyone? #pullingmyhairout

OK, where exactly in Australia are you?

If you are in Sydney I might be able to help you.

Have you replaced the stock FRM with a new, unprogramed FRMIII?

From my experience, you need to buy the retrofit cable that goes from the pins at the lights to the FRM for it work properly. There are pins required by the change in coding that arent utilised with the stock wiring harness, so coding alone will not let the DRLs or High beams work.

I will have a dig around for my files and documents that detailed how to get it to work but I did it 3 years ago.

Awesome I'm in sydney as well, north shore side

BMW wanted $1100 for a new footwell module so i tried to dodge that - i got a used FRMII that had the "XE" option and that enabled everything but the AE's

Failing that i coded the existing FRM3 that was in my car for xenons, i hadn't tested the high beam shutter but i coded the halogen high beam and got that working.

Do you remember how much the new FRM3 and wiring harness cost you?

Thanks for the reply

I encountered problems when I tried to utilise the stock FRM. It just wouldnt code properly and I had no DRLs or high beams.

You will need to source a RHD FRM module from the UK or perhaps even Germany, which is where I got mine. I bought it from this place http://eshop.original-teile.de/

The wiring harness was: http://eshop.original-teile.de/index...m=61120443685+

I will have a dig for the OEM instruction pdf which should help

I used NCS Expert to code the FRM.

At first, I coded my original FRM which allowed for the correct wattage for the xenon's, and even I had retrofitted the wiring harness the DRL's and high beam shutter wouldnt work.

But the moment I replaced it with a new, uncoded FRMIII and coded it with NCS Expert it worked perfectly.

The Xenon retrofit is the most convoluted thing, BMW made it ridiculously difficult and even when you get the lights working, you need the auto leveling senors.

OK cool i can handle that, thought we would need to use winkfp or tool32 for a blank module.

Do you know which of these part numbers is the correct one?

Does this look right at all? http://eshop.original-teile.de/index...m=61359308371+

You can code a new module with NCSexpert without the need for the WinKFP etc. YOu just need to check the $522 Xenon in the VO and code it accordingly.

The part# for the FRMIII is applicable for your car so it should be good to go. Though ECS tuning says that it has been superseded so try this one instead http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Site...371/ES2745051/

Not sure if you have these instructions but I am attaching them anyway.

Good luck
