I have H&R OE sports but on a 128. I previously had the non-sport suspension. You can see the back is a little higher than the front. If you want an even drop all around, go with the Eibachs, but the drop will be slightly more than the H&Rs. Car is a bit dirty...

looks good, how is the ride quality and performance vs your stock suspension? I wonder how different these are compared to my sport suspens in my 135i. Anyone know?

hi guys,
i think this is my first time posting, I just felt like i needed to chime in on this thread and reiterate what a few other folks have said who have 135's and the OE sport's. i bought them from tirerack and thought they would be the best of both worlds since we wanted a moderate drop and had no need for coilovers. my bmw mechanic installed them for me and man, is the rake bad. the front is so low now and is very close to rubbing, and me and my fiancee both believe the rear has actually gotten higher! i contacted TR and all they said is to reference the disclaimer on my receipt saying that the drop differs based on factory suspension. that was the extent of their help. I then contacted H&R and it took a while for them to change their tune, but now they are trying to help. I have to get them part numbers when I can jack it up and do so, and then we will work on a solution to get the rear to actually 'drop' with a different spring (at least i hope that will be what they offer) We'll see what happens, but for anyone with a 135 sport, it might be a better idea to do a different setup (the OE's do look nice though on the 128i above!). The OE's do drive nice, but I think the amount of rake makes the car look more awkward, and I prefer the stock look. I've attached a crummy camera phone pic but feel free to PM me with any other questions. |

The reason I was asking was I was either going to put 19's on my 135 or leave then stock wheels and lower it, but the reason i want H&R is because they have better performance overall but those pics are making me reconsider about H&R's uh but let me know if their was a mistake involved

hey, no offense taken. the reason i posted was so that others won't go through the same problem. H&R surely didn't put enough thought into this kit for 135 sport owners, and if you ask me, Tirerack's reps on the phone going forward should give a warning. Hopefully I'll get it worked out, or I'll move to Eibachs. What sucks though is I'm not too handy, so I'll be paying for more installation regardless.

H&R did not perform a proper R&D. It is chronicled in a review by a member with a black 135. The problem was HR used the rear springs offered on the 3 series. The rear ends of the 3 series are heavier than ours and gave them a more even drop. HR ended up giving our member a different rear spring but it made the drop too low. He had to make a pad to raise the back. All part numbers are documented in his review.
I would not recommend the HR OE to anyone with the oem sport suspension based on appearance alone. I have a very slight rake but not as bad as robbys3m3 above. It may or may not have something to do with maybe the rod length on my Koni FSD being different from stock.

I feel bad b/c I suggested Robby get the OE sports. I even suggested TR, and the sales guy who has a 135i sport... Something is not right here.

Weird, same think happened with the H&R sport springs on my GTI. When they first introduced the springs for my car the rake was terrible...squatting in front and wayyyyyy too high in the rear. They eventually revised the rear springs to give a more even drop but there is still a slight rake.

Is this is the same for the H&R sport springs? I always wondered why the front of my 1 was slammed and the back looked like it has a baby drop.. Will H&R replace the old springs with the new revised ones?

A couple questions:
1) When I visit Tire Rack, I see an H&R Sport and an H&R Super Sport. What is the H&R OE sport everyone is talking about? 2) All discussions of the rake aside, can those who have fitted these springs make some comments on the perceived handling differences in their cars after fitting them? Or did you just do it for looks? I am coming from an older 911 that I installed stiffer torsion bars in and lowered. The ride was quite firm but not uncomfortable. The handling, I'm afraid to say, was far superior to the 135i's out-of-box sport suspension package. The 135's suspension feels high and wallowy to me after the 911, and I need to address that at some point, so I'm weighing up the pros and cons of springs vs. coil-overs. Anyone want to comment on the handling after installing springs? Thanks, ianc |

Eibachs have a perfect even drop fron to back and no rake. here's my 128 with Koni FSD shocks and Eibach Pro-kit springs. Ride is very OEM. Total is about $900 which is quite a bit less than coilovers.
