How much power have YOU extracted from your n52b30?
Hey guys,
Who has gained decent power from their N52B30? Has anyone made 180-200rwkw? If so, what did you do? When posting power/dyno figures, please quote your before/after at the wheels, with a % gain. Working out how cost effective it is to mod this car.(it don't be, being NA). I'm used to far faster cars... -R |

Honestly the only gains you can extract are scoops and intake then exhaust, this combined with the right dyne will give you not even a 10% gain. Save your money buy a decent suspension and some sticky tires then go find a windy road a see what our 1 series was meant to really do.

I am aware of the starting mods to get the ~10%, I am also aware of how to set up a car for track/hills. I was curious as to whether anyone had done a decent build, or if an engine swap is the only option if a hatch is a requirement. Thanks for your input. |

5% tune 5% intake all roughly... pity cams/turbo kits/aftermarket forged pistons were never developed for these engines this is on a 130i, too which is 265hp stock (gets 240-250 to the wheels approx, stock) and i believe... considering the 128i is 230hp... well a simple tune (and intake swap i believe?) will get you +50hp. supercharger kit if you want +100-150whp at least? :P so considering 180rwkw from 195 at the fly (super impressive!).. 93% efficiency means 200rwkw you only need 216.6 at the fly, so yeah tune/full exhaust/intake will easily do it for you. supercharger is apparently 330-350hp atw everything else stock on the lower powered USDM N52B30's... so that's 260kw atw :P. i'd imagine somewhat more available witha 2.75-3" catless exhaust.. I was under the impression our cars run around 140rwkw standard, certainly feels to be low-mid 100 range. Do you have any information on the S/C kit? I have only seen the ARMA kits, which when tested on a Z4 in the states they weren't up to the task. If there isn't some form of FI kit for our engines, it could be more cost effective to swap in(and engineer) an N54/N55, or S65 if feeling adventurous. -Ryan |

Even (144 at the flywheel) preludes get high 120's to the ground totally stock 140on an n52 would be detuned, hot day, bad dyno, thin air, all at once. Possibly even 91/95 octane. Even awd cars get 15-20% loss MAXIMUM. 10% for rwd with an open diff is pretty correct. Some info on the arma on from amwrican forums on 3 series say it is good, but also apparenty mmw's should be finished qithin a month or two, tuned for a little over 6psi they say. N54 swap is 15k in parts alone (front cut). You could just buy a 135i for the same price total. |

I've seen stat write off 135's for 15k, wouldn't spend more than 7 on a long motor. Be interested to see the new SC kit. I have never seen 10% drivetrain loss on a rwd car, but I would love it if this thing starts at 180rwkw, and the lack of boost/power delivery makes it feel like less! |

these motors pull smoothly from 1000-1500 rpm, til it flattens out around 6000-7000, you can idle up a hill (700rpm, no accelerator) even. it's pretty good for traffic, just stick it in first and don't do anything lol reading some other forums atm (****** etc.) blown 3 series's getting 340-380hp at the wheels depending on the mods with the ARMA supercharger kits then other replies saying it's not a very good kit... some say amazing etc. i'm just waiting for the MMW one, if it does come out it just means they're taking their time, which is a very good thing. i mean, their headers look unbelievable. if you could get an N54 for $7k... well i'll be all over that! |
