Does anyone know why the motor reads "powered by bmw m" instead of housing the M badge on the plastic casing?

In all seriousness, I thought the decision came from the fact that M modified the N54 and didn't build it from scratch like with the I-6 on the e46 M3 or the V8/V10 on the current M cars....but I was afraid of the backlash of suggesting this isn't an M motor.

Is the badge on the X5/X6 M motor?

"Powered by BMW M" is like "HD ready".

The engine from the 1M is not a M-build engine, that's why it says BMW and not M on it.
But it's fine with me, you won't get a M-engine for that money!

gs/e60/1m?: Black kidneys are part of the BMW Performance program and are no option. You have to order them separately.

Correct!

For a small and rush project that even does not have the money/budget to do a new crash test for the carbonfiber roof option (which is the reason why 1M only comes in standard steel roof), what else you could expect they will invest in other more expensive components?

I'll definitely post some pics as soon as i can. You can order performance kidneys in full black or as we do, we paint them ourselves in the color you like.
It's correct that i changed colour. It sure looks good in AW but there are too many AW 1 series here in Belgium and the glance is not the same of a metalic paint. So i probably take a black one but there is also a chance for VO. My roadtrip to BMW Welt in March will clear things out

Can't you just order the Performance kidneys and retrofit?

The 1-series performance grills are two pieces. The outer ring can be removed from the vertical slots. A friend and I noticed this when we were swapping them out on his 135.

The first paragraph describes "active steering".

Does the 1M also have regenerative braking, charging the battery?

Didn't know that.
But I'm just referring to the BMW performance pictures of the 1 coupe and they're black there. So I guess, you'll get black inner and outer parts with the performance kidneys:

At least I hope so. Otherwise I'll paint that rubbish chrome black!!

Is the badge on the X5/X6 M motor?

Here is the photo of the current X5M engine

It could be a preproduction piece that will change. The "Powered by BMW M" looks to be a sticker that fit in the existing groove on the current production cover. It would be easy for BMW to order covers that have the trademark ///M rather than the Roundel to put on the production cars.

We all keep looking at the preproduction cars as production cars and get caught up in the details that might/will change before production starts. The mules that are being shown are really to build up excitement for the fender flairs, the ZCP wheels, the black interior with the orange stitching and the Valencia Orange paint and to tell you the truth, its working for me. I like the fenders, the interior and I really like the VO. I’ll worry about the details like what shocks are used, what the muffler looks like or the type of headlights when the first production cars roll off the line.

LOL, who cares what it says on a piece of plastic attached to the top of the engine! As far as I'm concerned it could say 'Powered by Joe' on it, I don't really care, what's written on it won't make the engine any more powerful. What matters is the torque curve, throttle response, eventually the noise it makes and I guess way down the line (but still ahead of what it says on the cover) how much gas it uses.

The engine is fun to look at a couple of times when you first get the car, and you have to look at it when doing maintenance or checking the oil, but otherwise I'd rather spend my time driving the car and you're not looking at the engine when you're driving are you?
