The saga continues. A fellow forum member has a set of the 4" morel hybrid ovations with the mounting bits from musicar / vp electrcity. These are on their way to me, this week. So these will be next:

After that, the next "next step"s are, replace the underseat subs, ideally with kickers, and add amplification (at least for those).

For now, dialing in the JBL MS-8 is interesting. Several different configs have been recommended here and at DIYMA (by a rep from JBL), and I think I've settled on what works best so far. But I expect that might change when I upgrade components. And if the new firmware is released, that has been tested with the underseat woofer oem setup in our BMWs (the original unit wasn't), that will change the game, too.

676 is hifi 10 or 8 speaker
677 is logic 7 = 688 harman kardon

Today's thought. Since I have two extra channel's of amplification on the MS8 that I am not using, could be be configured to bi-amp the underseat woofers and get a little more oompfh? Reading through the MS8 threads, it appears possible (as in, people have done it) but I am not sure if it's beneficial, and no on seems to make a note of what settings in the setup process are used for such a thing.

Your question is somewhat vaguely phrased - would you mind explaining it with a little more detail? I am not certain what you are asking (not why this is the thread for it, but that's another story).

Sorry about that.

The MS8 is, among other things, an eight channel amp.

I'm using one channel for the front mid/tweet combo on the right front, a second channel forthe same on the left, one channel each for the rears, and one channel each for the underseat woofers.

That leaves two channels unused.

I'm wondering whether I can double up on the amplification to the underseat woofers using those extra two channels.

And, if so, it's not clear to me how I can tell the MS8 that is what I am doing.

I may be totally crazy.

This doesn't make you crazy. You have not read enough, though.

First, it's been tried. Not enough power. The MS8 "amp" is just two deck-power chip amps and they can't push 8" woofers.

Secondly, other than setting your crossovers, you don't tell the MS-8 anything. The 8 low-power-amp channels are fed by the same signals as the 8 preamp RCA outputs. You can't change that. All you can do is select the RCA output or the speaker-wire output.

Good to know.

Right now, I'm using the MS8 to power the OEM hifi underseat woofers, but it sounds like that will be a woeful manner in which to try to power anything aftermarket I replace the OEM 8inch woofers with.

Thanks.

I am also planning to upgrade my audio system because this stock HIFI system sounds really bad.
Does it almost sound like the alpine upgrade? (this i had in my preveous BMW 118D and did sound pretty good)
Is it better to change the speakers or the amplifier?
What aplifier is recommended, the MS-8 or the JL Audio xd600/6 without blowing the OEM speakers?

Most agree that just adding an amp to the oem speakers is not so useful. And that just upgrading the speakers is a waste with the oem amp.

The ms8 can power the oem speakers but nothing much more taxing and it's far inferior to a real amp.

I've tried all these combos.

If I was to do it all over and could not do it all at one time, I'd do the amp+speakers first.

Second best is just the ms8 alone.

for the best options for audio in our cars..its always speakers speakers speakers... since they are the only thing you hear! the 4 inch in the door suck.. so I would recommend, well pretty much anything is better than whats in there.. I have chosen the diamond audio hex 4inch.. as far as tweeter goes, I choose pioneer premier tweeters, now I would recommend a min. 50 watts per, and 75 for conv. underseat midbass units, well with no eq, go jenhert or morel, if you are smart and add an eq then you can get away with the sws from earthquake.. now amps.. I cant tell you what to buy here, there are way way to many excellent amps, I choose jl xd as they are tiny with great power. as far a sub goes.. try a jl 10w3, or kicker solo x10. both work well.. now good sound is easy, just due the following upgrades, great sound is what we want,! to this extent you must run some kind of dsp. I would highly recommend the zapco dsp-8, or the arc audio dsp8. Now we can manipulate the sound and tailor it to exactly what you want, with proper time alignment, proper phase, proper balance, and proper equalization..

Most people are not going to be able to set up a DSP properly.

Pioneer tweeters? Why on earth would you do such a thing?

Have you used a DSP-8 OR a PS-8 in an E82?
