Ah got it. I spent some time poking around 1addicts but couldn't confirm anyone who lives in the U.S and had it coded. Either way, I'm going to give my SA a call this week and run this over with him to make sure it can be coded

I had initially thought of going with something a bit more involved, but for the money and simplicity, I'm liking the idea of this retrofit. Thanks for the feedback.

Do you have a window sticker saying your car is a 2011? Normally cars built in July(and onwards) are considered the next model year. I think you have a 2010.

Yea... no tweeters at the top of the doors(triangle) are base stereos. My car is like that. I've been considering the Alpine kit too.

There should be a sticker under the hood(or door jam) that says: "this vehicle confirms to XXXX model year specs".

100% certain. Car is build date 6/23/2010, but has an n55 and DCT tranny. Neither of these are available in 2010 model year vehicles here in the states. Quick google of the VIN and looking over the title confirms it. It's an early build 2011 model.

I think it's been mentioned on various threads on here regarding the base stereo that it was the default option on 2010 and some early 2011 models. Electricity VP mentions it on his site here http://musicarnw.com/bmw-sound-syste...us-model-year/

Hey guys, I've found that I can buy this for my 2012 135i E82, and I've got an installer in mind here in Sydney Australia to install for me (since BMW gave me a ridiculous price of $1200 to order this kit from Germany, plus $750 to install)

The only thing is, from what I've understood in this thread, it needs to be coded to work with the stock OEM head unit I have in there now (I have the base stereo system, the most basic option)

If he doesn't code it (he probably wouldn't know how to code a BMW) will it work at all? or will it work but just sound really whack and out of balance everywhere?

Is there anyone in Sydney who does this coding to make it work? Or even the full job of installation and coding to get this working 100%? I'd rather stay away from BMW here, the guy I was dealing with was pretty arrogant and seems unreliable...

Cheers

It will work. It just won't sound the way it should. The coding in your car is currently set to modify the sound to compensate for shit speakers.

When you add the Alpine Kit it needs to be changed from "base" to "hi-fi". This flattens the EQ curve and sends an unmodified signal to the speakers.

I had the Alpine kit in my 135i for about a week before it was coded and trust me. It's night and day difference.

Cheers Reisf, I'm actually in the north shore area too!

I've decided to just sit on speaker upgrades for now, but if I'm tempted again I'll give you a shout

No worries. I'm trying to convert my car to a logic 7 system and if that's successful i can sell you Alpine kit for cheap if you're interested. I've only had it just over a month now.

*Assuming you know how to code*

With NCSExpert update vehicle order with $676, then use job "SG_CODIEREN" on "CIC" module. Done.

Hey Reisf

Not sure if this offer still stands or if you have the Alpine kit for sale but I'd be real keen to have a chat. I've canvassed a ton of options and would love to self install the Alpine retrofit but don't have the confidence. I'm on base stereo with a 2008 e93.

Hey mate, sorry Alpine kit was gone ages ago. However i'm still happy to assist with install and coding for a small fee/beer.

The install on a 2008 is a bit tricky. On later models all connections were plug and play, but on models up to 2009 (i think) you need to splice and crimp wiring. To make that worse, the wiring that comes with the amp is labelled incorrectly (it's literally back to front).

It's certainly DIY-able. I'm only 21 and i've literally pulled my whole car apart and changed/upgraded a lot of the electronics and features.

You would be looking at:
- removing door cards
- removing seats (or just unbolting and sliding them back - dont disconnect airbag connector)
- pulling out rear seats
- removing boot trim
- Some very basic wiring

Does anybody know why these kits are available on all F20 and 21 including the LCI but not on the M135i?
Is it a wiring thing or just BMW being difficult?
Just wondering wether I should chance it And see if it will fit mine?

Because the Alpine Kit is for vehicles with the base stereo option only. The M135i has the HiFi stereo system as standard, which means you should already have front door tweeters and an amplifier whereas the base stereo option has no amplifier at all, and no tweeters.

This is one level better than the base and one step below the Harmon Kardon.

Hello,

I am looking to code $676, most of the manuals I can find are for E90.

Are this the same steps for the E87:
First add $676 to VO, then FA_write in FRM and CAS.

Then, using NCS, with the profile "expert", code the following modules :

CHOST
CAPPL
CGATE
CAUDI
CTUNE

to code, you just have to make an "SG_CODIEREN" on the modules, with expert profile. NO BLANK .MAN FILE ! No need to read the modules first, just code...

I Don't understand the last part... can somebody clarify please?

Thanks in advance!!

Unfortunately my M135i definitely has the base stereo.
I have fitted some tweeters my self but it's still heavily equalised and shite.
Hence wanting the Alpine upgrade.

If you are willing to invest in real good sound buy Gladen One with DSP proccesor.

The quality of the sound what you have then is even better then Logic 7 in my opinion.

Oh thats a shame. That being said i don't see why an alpine kit for a f20/f21 of the same model year won't work for your car. You might want to try on the f2x forum

I just had a thought, it might have something to do with the active sound design - the fake engine sound that is piped through the speaker system. Because this is one thing the m135i has that the others don't and it's somewhat related to the sound and wiring schematic of the car.

So maybe save your money on the alpine and go to an audio shop.

I think you are right but I've now coded it to off so I will probably give the Alpine a go.

I bought the alpine upgrade kit a few months ago off another forum member and got it installed yesterday at my house. Install was pretty easy but finicky. I am at the dealer now for coding at the tune of $255. I can say before coding I was super happy with this kit and I am excited to hear it after coding. Just for information I have a 2011 135i built in early 2010. I defiantly have the base system but also have a n55 with dct.
